I guess I will make an ebay auction on Monday with the pictures and get them to do a quick opinion. Assuming it comes back "likely genuine", what is a ballpark on what it's worth? I'm thinking I can get it for a couple hundred.
There are only about 100,000+++ Signed Mantle balls out there
He is very common......, not as common as Bob Feller, but still very common.
Since he is one of the 3 most faked sigs and the easiest (Mantle, Williams, DiMaggio).......Value all lies in if it "passes" authenticity, and if its an early Mantle sig, 1950-55 era (Harridge pre1958), and how bad the scuffs are from game/bp use.

<< <i>I have a serious question, if like you say you can get this ball for a 'couple hundred' why all the worry if it passes?
I mean for such a small sum of money (with great potential upside) isn't it worth the gamble?
Steve >>
If the guy said, "$200 right now or I'm not selling it", then yeah I'd just buy it, but why not get an opinion when he's already agreed to let me take pictures and see if it's authentic?
Thats a clubhouse sig. I believe it was over on the gameusedforum someone had a similar item signed with the same autograph and it came back as a clubhouse sig. Still, you could take the autograph off of it an have a nice ball.
Can someone please summarize what has happened here in 25 words or less? Thanks in advance..

lol, so you hate grocery stores, outlet stores, department stores, online stores, etc, etc.... too? Do you think car dealerships should sell their cars for what they have in them?

Well, seeing how you were bragging about "sticking him" in a $12,000 car for over $15,000 and the comment about letting him keep the socks, one would tend to read it as "the car usually sells for $12,000 but I got $+15,000 out of the sucker"
However, looking back on my comment, I should have realized a car salesman would never do anything like that. Those guys are some of the most respected and honest men around.

lol, it doesn't really matter what any of you guys think about me anyway, but here goes. The statement I made about the $12,000 car for $15,000 means that the car black books for around $12,000. Black book is wholesale. The retail is around $15,500 so in effect he is getting it at less than average retail. The term sticking him into it didn't mean anything derogatory or that I was putting him in a lemon, etc...
That being said, I really don't give a rats ass if you like car salesmen or not. How about restaurant owners? How about people that own rental property? I have several job titles, which would you prefer me to use so that you might like me better?
Steve, I have a question. Several people have pm'd me about you. You don't have many friends around here. But here is the question, some of them name dropped StantheManMusial without elaborating on the storyline. Who is that and why is he significant to you?
<< <i>I have several job titles, which would you prefer me to use so that you might like me better?
None, I wouldn't like you no matter what title you choose.
As for the PM's I too have gotten many and all have said you are a tool.
As for STTM he like you is a liar and I called him on it.
Next question?
Steve
lol, exactly WTF have I lied about? Please point to where I've lied about anything. Also, I'm not referring to you as Steve anymore. From now on, you are Grumpy Old Man.
Do me a favor and go after one of the 10 others here that have ridiculed you.
I'm done with this BS.

the thing with the others is that I know they are just clowning and some have even pm'd me to say so. Being sarcastic, facetious, rude, etc....just for the sake of being funny is fine. Making fun of others just to be funny is fine too. You genuinely just try to be an ass to others on here though. You knew damn good and well that I meant the whole story behind the ball made it unique yet you insisted on chiming in with a smartass remark to try and belittle me and the content in my thread. I guess that is the norm for grumpy old men.
You're right I have no idea how old you are, but you've already told me you were on disability (which is one of the biggest scams along with welfare in the nation, but for a different discussion). Taking that along with your tone and outlook on things, I assume you are older than I am.

Just to set the record straight and to answer this idiot one last time since he chose to bring this up.
1......My PRIVATE insurance pays for my treatments. I also send Medicare 1200.00 a year so they can be a secondary, so I am in fact paying them and getting NO benefits.
2......I collect NO SSI dollars.
So how that is a scam is beyond me.
lastly I simply asked in the post that got you so worked up "How is this ball unique" I must have missed that part.
I think a miscommunication may be getting out of hand and too personal.
If I could say something here...
and since most know Steve and I are friends - I don't want this to look like I'm siding against Tom but I think it would be nice if we never get personal with each other and try to keep the discussion or argument to the topic at hand.
In fact, I would rather the two of you called a stalemate - you're both good guys.
And last, Tom - I hope the ball turns out to be good.

I am not sure if he does "free" looksees if you don't want to sell it, but he does make offers via email.
.......................
My WAG is that the sig is good.
I would throw it on EBAY and get a QO from PSA/DNA.
If it's good, I don't think one could pay much more than
a couple-hundred, if they wanted to flip it for a decent profit.
edit: Obvioulsy, if the thing had a PSA/DNA letter, it would be worth more.

If they gave a quick opinion "likely genuine" then I would definitely send it in to get a letter.
he might do it over the net, he used to and charged something like 10.00.

You can get quick opinions sometimes on weekends. Their office doesn't have to be open.
Mike
What matters is it will take 24 to 48 hrs. to get the opinion once they receive it.
That is the reason i asked. If you do it now you might get the results back sooner.
Then again you might not.

<< <i>can someone please summarize, blah, blah, blah.....? >>
so far? nothing.
When questioned why he felt it was unique he acted like the car guy that he is
and tried to spin his way out of it. Saying something to the effect it was the story behind the ball that was unique.
(How that makes the ball itself unique is beyond me)
The story is some widow got it from her hubby who may have gotten it at a game and put it into 2 socks.
A customer of his saw that he collected and told him about said ball that he got from the widow at a yard sale.
He is selling the guy a 12k car for 15k and also wants the ball thrown in for 200.00 only if it authenticates.
Lee wants the socks and or the table cloths.
Matt hit the nail on the head.
I'll take even more heat from Tommy cuz I am usually the one that calls him on his BS.
Sorry I went over 25 words.
Steve
No, of course not, but that is NOT what you said.
Had you said I am putting him into a car that I have 12k into for 15k their would be no problem.
The way you expressed yourself was that the car was worth 12k and you were getting 15k for it.
Big difference. But then again communication does not seem to be a strong point for you.
Last weeks debacle over 78 cents in postage due bares that out.
Steve
Mikey was Mickey's less-talented younger brother, and played for only a couple months in the Cards system.
His sig is very rare and usually goes for far more than Mickey's
I say buy it
