I am still a relative newcomer to the hobby of coin collecting. Although in the limited time that I have been a part of the coin collecting community, I have found your read's to be amongst the most informative and creative on the boards. Your reputation speaks for itself. I wish you the best of luck as you make your way through this transitional period in your life. I look forward to seeing you on the other side!
You are so right Jay. They are just coins, and other things are so much more important. I love my collection but would dump it in a heartbeat if it got in the way of my family.
But AU IHC'S????????? COME ON AND BE A REAL COPPER MAN!!!!!!!
Jay, sorry for the issues. I have always enjoyed your firey answers. Hopefully after the dust settles you will find better times and memories ahead and a new collecting challenge. I married my high school sweetheart 30 years ago after growing up with her from 1st grade. 10 years after being married and a 6 month old child we parted ways. I hated the thought of divorce and the problems that go with it. My son was the one constant that attention was focused on. I have been remarried for 17 years now and my son has lived with us full time for the last 16 years. I never realized how miserable my life had been before the divorce. The last 15 years have been filled with fun, love, fun, more fun, issues, sickness ( son had cancer, now 100 percent cancer free). I never dreamed that my life would have turned out this well. Sometimes you got to have problems to enjoy the good times. Best of luck!! I am sure your personality and outstanding charter will see you through.

Jay, I wish you all the best, hope to see you again at FUN this year. Every day brings new opportunities, I'm sure you'll be around to pursue another series.
Jay, I certainly wish you the best in your future endeavors. It has been a pleasure exchanging witticisms on the open forum with you, and also learning from your inputs on the coin forum. Thanks for your advice and help in the past. I know you will still be around and hope you will input occasionally. Cheers, RickO
Don't worry, folks. He'll be back. Jay love coins (and us ) too much to not come back.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Jay - I wish you and your family the best during this period. Although I don't own any Saints, and, based on my current budget probably never will, I have always enjoyed and learned from your posts. I look forward to your mastery of a new series. Brian
At the end of the day, Jay... what coins you choose to "caretake" or do not choose to "caretake" is of little importance...IMHO... it is what each of us "brings to the table" in terms of our real essence...not the material things we have accumulated along the way...that truly matter...
From the brief encounters we have shared thru this forum, I have come to gain a big respect for you... and now with this decision you have made and shared with us...that respect has grown even more...
The collecting community loses nothing with the sale of your "precious" rounds of golden syrup... if anything...it gains... these pieces now get to be cared for by a new person... and as you free yourself up and "take care of family business"... you will grow and in turn...and in time...have even more to share with us...
Happy trails, Jay... see ya somewhere down the road...
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free
Thanks, all of you. Try to realize that this is not such a sad moment because of coins. And even the divorce will be good for me and Mrs.
Right now all I care about is telling my girl and being as good a father as I can on helping her through what will be a very tearful challenge for all of us. Until she's healed, I'm hurt. Coins? What are they?
I have no idea what's next. I'd like to write. But you all know I'll need a typist. . I'm at ANA now and I say farewell to my ladies today as I consign them. I only wish life could be as simple as this. But many of you have the general impression that I'm a tough coffin nail. Sometimes yes, most times I'm a mortal man who wears his heart on his sleeve.
If you see me say hello. I'm fully intact and more relaxed than I've been in years.
Jay, I'm sorry for what your family is going through. I know it's one of the hardest decisions you've ever had to make, and the next year will not be easy emotionally. But you're a stand-up guy and you're taking care of what you need to do. I don't collect much gold but have always enjoyed your posts and know you're the expert of the Saint series. That expertise will never go away, and I know you'll still be offering help and advice to others. One of these days you'll pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. Until then just do what you need to do, enjoy your daughter and enjoy the life God gave you. You'll be okay.
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.
I know this was not an easy decision for you but sounds like you correctly and philosopically made a decsion that is a good one for you and this time in your life.
We can't take it with us anyway and besides I am sure you will be pleased with the results from FUN.
I manage money. I earn money. I save money . I give away money. I collect money. I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
Jay, as others have said - your priorities are right, and things will get better, if they haven't already. Good luck with the sale. Your knowledge and contributions here have been valuable to anyone who reads your posts. Regards, jmski
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
Well said. As a husband and father I hope that, if I were put in the same position, I could extricate myself from this hobby (at least the expensive parts of it) half as gracefully as you just did.
Of course, I am very sorry to hear about your decision and the reasons for it. Good luck!
It seems horrible at the time but I can tell you that it is usually better afterward that it was before. In my case it has worked out great and the kids are much better off. With the way Jay talks about his daughter, she'll be fine. He'll make sure of it. --Jerry

On a more serious note, I wish you well in your transition. I just attended a funeral for an 11 year old boy this week whose divorced parents "reunited" in their grief. As they hugged each other and shared their memories it was a sobering experience. Now they only have their 7 year old daughter who survived the accident. I guess in a sense you will be facing a similar challenge and I wish you the best in meeting it.
Damn. My heart goes out to you. Hopefully, you and your wife both remember throughout this process that your daughter must come first. Best of luck to you.
I thought you were selling off the Gold to put into a trust fund for your daughter and you were checking yourself into a Monastery and converting to a Monk..
Props to a guy with his priorities and integrity intact. A challenging time no doubt but not sad. In all likelihood a path to a better place for all concerned. Heck, nothing can take away from the accomplishments Jay has achieved.
No question as to what's most important. Devoting the next 5-6 years to her before she transitions to the next part of her life will leave you more satisfied than any collection ever could. No doubt it will be a challenge at times, but that which is most worthwhile does not come easily.
