I was viewing the photos of the Mantle collection-how can that 68 mantle be a psa 10, when it is off center?????..10 to me means pefectly centered left to right...just my 2 cents. Scott

the 2006 national was in anaheim; my buddy and i attended (we flew all the way from boston and just last week were joking that we flew all the way across the country just for a card show!!!)

i thought it was a really good show and found lots of great stuff there; besides, anaheim is only an hour or so from LA so we made the drive there on saturday night after the show ended that night and hung out with our buddy who lives in LA.

we've been to five nationals (we started in 98 with chicago, atlantic city in 03 that i hated, 05 and 08 in chicago, and 06 in anaheim) and the 06 show was right up there with the three chicago shows.

we'll be going to baltimore next year and the next two chicago shows in '11 and '13 so it looks like three of the next four for us--cant wait!!! (especially since we didnt go to cleveland this year so i already need a fix!!)

I'm cool with Vegas...enough hotels where everyone can find a deal.
  • Incredible pics, esp those 54 and 55 bowman boxes from bbce. And the 55 topps box.

Why does comic con do so well in san diego every year, but it seems like the national has never really been centered towards the west coast?

You had 2006, which people thought flopped.

Then 2000 and 96. And the bubble year of 1991.

You'd think it'd be in so cal, san diego or vegas every 4 or 5 years.

The rotation being west coast, chicago, dallas, cleveland, and east coast.

But amazing pics. Not sure which is better, those Mantles, or Steves booth. Its also interesting that the price of wax (like 85 opc hockey or 87 fleer basketball) has held up fairly steady, even through the recession/depression of 08/09. I dont think the economy is completely doomed if people are still paying full price for some 20 year old sportscard wax boxes.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that pic, but when I went to see it in person, it was pretty well centered (55/45 at worst). I think the pic was playing tricks on the card.

Sorry to post this here, but I didn't want to start a new thread.

Did anyone sub any cards at PSA's booth that was NOT a part of any show special? I subbed cards under the August CC Special that Saturday, and they haven't been marked as received yet. Anyone else?

    Jeff,

I'm in the same boat. Dropped off a cc special Saturday morning, still not logged in.

Well crapola... oh well, it did save me $20 or so from my own shipping cost. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow.

a little late on this reply, but work happens!

I had a great time in Cleveland. I am posting a pic of my newest fav item...the '79/'80 hockey rack of 4 packs. What a cool and rare item!

Steve told me that someone told him that he had it prriced too low, and I agree. Chances are that there cannot be too many around. The '80/'81 OPC is just as nice.

I also had a very nice Tony C pic authenticated. It was signed in '67 when a collector collecting an autographe of the Impossible Dream Team members. The auto graded a PSA-8 and is one of the best Tony C autos that you will see. i will post a pic later.

The Legendary Live Auction was also very cool. Got to hang out with Steve Hart for a bit while there and met a guy whose family came out with the find of '55 All Americans unopened packs. What a find!

Thanks for the pic flatfoot. Thought you'd be interested in this variation as shown in the Vintage Hockey Collector's Guide.

As I told you in the PM I had a chance to buy this (probably this very one) 8 or so years ago for $1200. I'm sure the Vintage Hockey guide author would like to have a pic of yours. BTW, it also has a pic of the '80-81 and the packs are arranged similar to this '79-80.

it was the guy who wrote the hockey collector's guide who told Steve that he had it prices to low. Glad he did not buy it!

Not sure it is a variation. Looks to be the same pack.

Compare the way the packs are packaged. Your packs are right-side-up (for lack of a better phrase). The packs in my picture are on their sides.

Of course, these are the only two I've ever seen so maybe it's not so much a variation as an alternate way OPC packaged them. There probably aren't too many others with which to compare.

oh yes. The '80/81 OPC tray is packaged the same way as your pic. I like it that way as it is much smaller!

Nice items either way of course.
