1 - for anyone at the National, do you see any high end golf memorabilia? Just curious if anyone has rare signed golf balls from long deceased champions.
2 - I find it interesting that most of Spence's high end Mantles have newer flips (flips from 06-08). Anyone think he's has them cracked so as to update the old rounded corner flips and make them look like thy were graded more recently (when standards toughened)? When I look at a lot of the highest graded vintage sets (Cracker Jack/T206 etc) I always see really old flips on the highest end cards. It leads me to believe some (like Marshall Fogel's PSA 10 1952 Mantle, for instance) would be 9's if graded today. Thoughts?
I would easily pay $20 just for the chance to hold one of those Wagners, or the 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 9 or 10. THAT would be well worth it, in my book...

That 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle PSA 10 was, at one time, holdered in one of PSA's older flips, to wit:
Imagine if PSA had dinged, or worse, the 51 Mantle when cracking it out to reholder it.
How'd you like to be the one to call and let him know, "Hi, Mr. Spence, this is XXX from PSA and there has been a little incident with one of the Mantles that you sent us to reholder." You just know that your call would not be well received and your day has just took a turn for the worst....
<< <i> All of those Mantles at the Memory Lane booth were impressive; just as impressive as the two T206 Wagners that were sitting right next to them in the display booth! The eye candy they had handing out literature at their booth was nice to look at too.
>>
Now why can't someone take pictures of the eye candy handing out brochures....All I see is pictures of fat guys standing around. You fellas need to get your priorities straight.
yesterday just sort of scouted around. Also got some things -- mostly GAI packs--set to crossover. Stopped by Steve Hart's booth and drooled. Did not get a chance to talk as he was busy. 1st stop today.
I will be there at 2:30 today and 1:00 Sat if anyone wants to stop by. I'll have Red Sox gear on...you cannot miss me.
WOW!........................................I have only been to one National (St. Louis), but it is so easy to get caught up at one booth just staring in awe!
<< <i>At the Memory Lane booth, they are displaying some of Donald Spence's Mantle cards. I think I stared at them for about 30 minutes. Here are a few pics:

WOWOWOWOWOWOW, what a beautiful display. I would have shot my load at my booth.
But....... something just doesnt look right on that 1951 Bowman Mantle PSA 10 When you look at that bottom right corner, something tells me "Luuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccyyyyyyyyyy, you got some splainin to do"

Great research Jack. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
It is stuff like this that will probably keep me from ever going to another National. I went to one about 20 years ago and just walked around and saw all of the great stuff I could never ever dream of owning. Made my measley collection seem so weak. Kinda like walking into a car dealership and seeing a bunch of 50K to 100K cars and then walking out and getting into your 86 Yugo. At least at my house my stuff is king! ;-)

Good luck with that...might be hard to do at a sausage fest such as the national.
I'm joking. I'm just jealous I'm not there.
What packs did you pick up? John

is the global authority booth a ghost town or do they have traffic?
I remember seeing the PSA 8 Wagner in Atlanta in 1992 - it's definitely worth seeing things like that in person!
To everyone at the National - have a great time!
More pic please?

Old flips are ugly. New ones are less ugly.
I have a 75 Yount PSA 8 with an old flip that I hate. The slab also has scratches on it. I'm gonna get it reholdered some day.

Here is a pic from the PSA booth. I took a picture of this card, because I'm not sure how it got a 10 with that T/B centering!
And 707 always has an impressive display of Mantles
