Too bad some don't understand me.

We probably all know the threads going around.
Somehow in one or more of those threads I am not looked upon too favorably by some.
Let me say we all have our opinions and we will all disagree at sometime or another as we are all individuals shaped by our own ways and morals. Somehow my words are twisted around to make me out to dislike all coin dealers and that is simply not true.
I was taught a very valuable lesson by one many years ago who ripped me off and laughed in my face about it. That is what someone has asked me to post. Somehow because I distrust that dealer and used it in a PM that is now being taken as I dislike "all" dealers. That is simply not true. If you look around at some of my post you will see a local dealer offered to let me go through a bucket of bulk dimes and purchase as many as I liked for melt values. I showed him what I had found and he insisted I only pay melt. One of the coins I found was an illusive 1942-S Inverted S Mercury Dime. I know this dealer treats his customers right. I have been in his store many times when he has purchased stuff he always takes the time to look at each coin when there are small quantities. Like others here have said nobody has the time to go through bulk purchases, and that was not my issue.
I have very high regard and respect for 99% dealers I have seen post on this board. This board is very educational and the expertize is unsurpassed.
Please note that I am consistent. I call them as I see them. The incident that started this whole fiasco was probably an honest error; however, I have suggested it can be made right by contacting the local media with a nice story they could most likely find the guy and offer additional compensation. If that happens it would probably bring in more customers and outweigh the cost and inconvenience of compensating the old guy.
I hope I haven't offended too many here, and if I have offended you please accept my sincere apology.
Feel free to blast me if you like, as that seems to have become the thing to do more and more on this board.
My PM is always on.

That's a great set of Mercs you have, and congrats on your #1 for the year!
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I still don't get why one person has a view and can't see another side to it.. This country was built on many different views/opinions and even today, old ways are becoming new ways.. I think it is up to that person who seems his/her view is always right, that's called a mistake at birth.. Also, It's called up bringing. I have respect and know most other people do also.. Oh well, don't sweat it, there is always a friend just around the corner.. I for one am one.. George Graham *yaha*
I hope one day you can overcome your desire to please everyone..

Let them be offended.... Don't apologize for what you believe....
No need to worry about anything Tony, all is good.
If its the thread I think you are talking about, no worries.

You're more than fine by me. Easily an XF guy.
We all certainly have our own unique points of view... and I think that if we can come together with open minds... then we all can help each other to expand our views of the world... and that is what learning is all about in my book...
The only thing I tend to take exception to is meanness... and passing judgements on others... I view others as mirrors... I can watch and listen and hopefully share and learn... then I hope that I can use my "better judgement" to determine the best course of action for me to take... and when it comes to others, well, I can choose to interact with them or not...I can decide to agree with them or not... I can perhaps make a "judgement call" about the actions they take and the decisions they make... but I think they have the right to their own decision making process and it is not for me to judge them as individuals...ever...
IMHO, we were all made by the same creator and if there is ever the need for a person to be judged... I leave that to that which created us...
I like Ya....just the way you are.....if everybody had the same opinion or just went along, what fun would that be, it"s all good
And for those of you that do not know Tony he is one of the most stand up guys I have had the pleasure of meeting on this board. Spare your grief for others because Tony does not warrant the grief or in no way deserves any of your grief.

This forum is an interesting place, and is helpful for the most part.
I myself have not been understood by some, as my background (as a researcher) is much different than a lot of others.
There are a few things that I will not do anymore -
1) won't grade anyone's coin(s). That's part of the ALWAYS disagree part.
2) won't offer advice on becoming knowledgable about numsimatics. To each (his or her) own.
Other than that, I am ALWAYS wanting to learn more.

I have never had a problem with what you have posted, and, I have agreed with most of your posts. Even the ones I haven't agreed with, I have seen no problems with your posts.
I have NOT seen you as a dealer-hater but rather as someone who is blunt about ethics and what one should (hopefully) expect from dealers.
In the case you are referring to, you are likely beating your head against a wall as the other party wouldn't change things if they could and has a completely different viewpoint. It is what it is and, while I agree with you in that instance, I know it for what it is. There is no way the other party would want media to know what happened anyway (and, to be fair, it isn't the other party's call to contact the media as they work for the shop, they do not run it).
Hope you don't need your flame suit

Everybody is entitled to an opinion and I'm just glad that those opinions can be, and are expressed.
The forum is not the ideal location for "true" communication as body language, facial gestures and intonation are very difficult to express. As a result, I hold no ill will against anybody for the opinions they express unless that opinion happens to include bashing my head in with a slabbing machine!
Say wait a minute, when folks challenge my age, I do get a little prickly but then I fully understand that if someone does not have a valid counter point to my opinion that they can make themselves feel better by attacking my age mentality.
BTW, I'm 12 and will always be 12 since 12 was a very good age! 30 was tough. 40 even tougher! 55 was a turning point and 60 was, well hard to accept for a 12 year old!
The name is LEE!
What we got here... is failure to communicate.
I got no issues with you.

out of respect for what many consider the sanctity of PM's i won't post what you said although it was clear to me that your "opinion" about dealers isn't held towards the individual who beat you, but towards all dealers. in that regard the OP is a nice example of revisionist history. strangely, i'm perceived as having committed a mistake and am expected to change and make things right by you, while at the same time you staunchly refuse to change your long held resentment. that is a line of thinking that baffles me. i've learned that resentment can destroy my spirit.
we've had a casual and friendly relationship here, shared some PM's about different stuff going back to 2002, hopefully that will continue although it will probably be different. sadly, i can say that about many members here. i'd be less than honest if i said this whole thing hasn't "stung" just a bit, it has puzzled me from the start.
and should be enjoyed to the best of our ability because before we know it, we, or a loved one, are gone. Sappy I know, but true.

<< <i>so you've felt a little pressure over a misunderstood PM you sent, some comments you've made and need to apologize?? how'd you like to put up with the entire pile climbing all over you for a week?? it puts things in perspective, doesn't it?? to me it just says to maybe excercise restraint of tongue next time and to remember that just because you have an opinion there isn't necessarily a need to shout it out, and that the entire world doesn't hold to your notion of right and wrong.

keets, if you look from the other side of this, I think you might gain some understanding of what looked like a "bash keets" scenario to you. Had you said it was a "smart mouth punk " instead of an "older gentleman", and 50 pounds of junk silver, instead of a few change purses, I think the replies would have been different. Had it been posted by someone else, the way the story was laid out, I think you would have agreed that the older gentleman was not treated fairly. Your other mistake was calling anyone who disagreed "self righteous", rather than explaining your position. Had you simply said, "I exagerated, it was actually a couple large bags of junk silver", everything would have settled down. The whole time, you seemed to almost enjoy making people assume the worst. I don't think it would have been that hard to simply give more details to explain your position. Again, think about your original post, and how you would have responded if it were posted by someone else. Would you have given them a "You Suck", and left it at that?
Sincerely,
Treeman
edited to add "Sincerely", because that's how I meant it.
