Ebay guy sends me someone else's card.***And now IM the bad guy***

So I win a card....seller sends it in a timely fashion, but I get 2 packages from him. 1st package is the card I ordered, 2nd package is a card I didnt order (about a $10 card). I figure if it was a freebie throw in, it woulda come in same envelope, so I contact seller. He gets back to me and tells me he will send me money if I either forward the card to the buyer, or return to him. I reply "no problem, please add $3.00 to my paypal account and i'll get the card out in the mail". 48 hours goes by with no reply/no payment sent. I message the seller again today, but I might have been a tad nasty. Said something to the effect that Im not his personal warehouse for his mistakes, and that I have asked for a payment of $3 to cover shipping. Told him I have some spring cleaning to do, and would like to get the card out of here ASAP or in the trash it goes. I also reminded him that this is his mistake and im trying to help, and to forgive me for being "rude", but his non payment/response is even more rude considering im trying to help HIM!

Do you really have to ask?
<< <i>yes.. you sound like an ass.. >>
Maybe im having a bad day, but realistically how long should I hold this item for before im no longer responsible for it? I know if it was ME who made this mistake, I would have had that shipping fee in the guy's account so fast his head would spin!
why would you even come here and post about it?..
I like your attitude by the way what is your ebay id so I can put you on my favorite ebay buyer /seller list.
over the top NO he should have answered you back within the hour of you sending him an email!
please tell us the scumbag dealers name and id # ! Thanks in advance for warning us of this scumball!
<< <i>i wouldve paid you right away, and he should have.. you still coulda been nicer with your email..
why would you even come here and post about it?.. >>
Just frustrated I suppose. I leave this guy an immediate positive feedback, and he has yet to leave one in return...that pissed me off a lil. Secondly, I have sent 3 seperate messages to this clown on this subject. I should have just not said anything and threw the card out. This is the headache I get for being the honest person trying to help another seller I guess.

I've sent the wrong card to someone a few more times than I would like to admit. I was always so happy when they mailed the card back to me or the buyer. Even if he's not appreciating your gesture I do!

headache?.. dude, if you even spend more than a couple minutes THINKING about the situation, you have a problem with yourself..
GET OVER IT, you did your part, and you were a major ass about it..
why would you even stress over someone sending you an extra card? you contacted him, if he doesnt contact you back, fine, who cares?.. you do obviously, you're even getting headaches over it..

You are not "responsible" for it, now.
I too would have sent the postage money IMMEDIATELY.
On EBAY - and other places - you will always be disappointed
if you expect other folks to perform like you would.
You offered to "help" the guy, and then went "street rat crazy"
when he did not respond fast enough.
Patience is a good thing.
When/if the guy sends your postage money, mail the card to
its intended recipient.
Or, you can write "return to sender" on the package and I guess
it will eventually find its way back to your seller.
<< <i>I think it's great that you are helping him out. Maybe something happened and he went on vacation or something. I realize you were being nice, and he's not reciprocating with his appreciation. But a good deed is reward in itself.

This seller didnt send me the card I ordered for free. He charged me $3.00 for $1.15 postage and a #000 envelope! Good deeds are all fine and dandy, and im a VERY generous person. But if you think im going to pay HIS shipping charge AND another on top of that for HIS mistake...no way Jose! Now I feel a little bad for the rightful owner of the card, but thats not my fault at all. I have sold over 350 seperate items on ebay over the past 4 years and have yet to make a single mistake. You wanna know why? Cuz I actually CARE about the quality of my service and thus I pay attention to the details.

"Molon Labe"
Why people post some of the things they do never ceases to amaze me.
I'm not sure it it is because some folks want to flex their Internet muscles or demonstrate that they are eBay tough guys, but regardless, I'm fascinated by the volume of people willing to make a mountain out of a molehill over a dollar amount that wouldn't even buy a Grande Latte at Starbucks...
The most rational method would be to forward the card on to the rightful owner, send the seller another email requesting payment and let it go. Doing the right thing isn't that difficult and being an azz isn't going to make the situation any better. If I were the buyer waiting on the card that was sent to the wrong person, I would be quite thankful for someone being thoughtful enough to forward it to me.

You are obviously an idiot based on your knee-jerk response. I have over 600 transactions total on ebay....never been negged, and never left a neg....and always paid on time. Whats YOUR ebay ID so I can have a gander at the crap you are trying to sling?
"Common sense is the best distributed commodity in the world, for every man is convinced that he is well supplied with it"
$3 to fix a simple problem......lol geez.
I get a card that doesnt belong to me.
Im honest and immediately contact the seller.
The seller acknowledges his mistake and offers to pay me to ship it on.
I politely accept his offer and request the money to be sent to my account.
He balks and doesnt reply for 2 days.
I send another message, again asking for payment.
Again, no response.
So I go out of my way to help this seller with his mix-up....he ignores my request, and now IM the bad guy? You guys have a funny way of thinking!

Your story is starting to change. So, which is it, did he not reply or did he balk?
I think the "imaginary" balk just got added in a feeble attempt to bail yourself out.

What I would do is really not relative here is it?
I find it's easier to do the right thing rather than complain about someone else NOT reacting at the speed and with the results that I would expect. Such an outlook makes things less taxing on my blood pressure and usually ends up being as I would expect when all is said and done.
<< <i>No you are not the bad guy, but 48 hrs? come on maybe he has had a family emergency or your email went to his junk mail or he is out of town or his computer crashed or maybe he died, but I don't understand sending threatening emails when you are out nothing except a few minutes of your time emailing him. Mistakes happen and patience is a virtue. Take a deep breath drink a beer take valium and don't worry about it.
The series of emails from when I contacted him about the mistake, till he told me he would send me money to forward/return the card all occured within a few hours or so. At the end of that exchange of messages is when I gave him my paypal info and asked him to send $3. Then silence for 48 hours. Its ALMOST as if this guy is waiting for me to tell him I sent the card, and then is just going to ignore my request for re-payment. Its not the money thing, its the principle of the matter. Im going out of my way to help this idiot, then he just ignores me. Thats the most frustrating part of this deal.
<< <i>Can I assist in this issue by donating .50 to your paypal account. If we get enough people to do it, you will have the $3 to send it to the rightful owner. >>
I think Matt has been known to send small amounts of change to people.
But this IS relative here?

<< <i>You should try being a little more rude and hostile with the seller. How dare he clutter up your home with his mistakes. Might I ask how neat you keep your home so that a single card causes your living quarters to be out of sorts? >>
Yeah....how about next time a seller makes a mistake, I just keep the card and my mouth closed?
I suspect gecko will get his $3 wiki wiki.

I guess the card gets thrown away

What I would do obviously has no bearing on this matter as you have chosen to take a hard line stance and make certain that you not only alienate a section of potential buyers on this board, but demonstrate that you are more concerned about convincing us as to why you are "right" than just doing the right thing.
Please feel free to PM me your eBay ID so that I can avoid potentially doing business with you.

Please check your paypal, I know paypal just implemented a new an improved (dont fix it if it aint broke) system, maybe the money is there or the dealer that owes u 3 bucks messed up and thinks it is there.
Either way, hope this works out for you.

Did the seller waive the $3 shipping charge on the card I bought from him? Of course he didnt. I guess that makes him a jerk as well huh?

Its about taking responsibility for your screw-ups. This guy has decided he just doesnt give a crap about whether or not his merchandise goes to the correct customer. So I offer to help him re-route the merchandise, and he ignores me. Now Im the rude jackass.
Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. You started that process by contacting the seller, now finish it. You know that the card doesn't belong to you and you either know who the owner is or you know who the seller is. Do the proper thng and send it to the proper owner. It's not their fault the guy made the mistake and perhaps not, but I bet you would want someone to send you the card if the shoe was on the other foot.
Just because the seller didn't respond to your request for payment, definitely doesn't mean you should keep it or throw it away.
Send me a scan of your $3.00 postage cost when you send it and I'll send you $3.00 paypal.
My two cents.
