Cancelled Morgan dollar die copies

I got these off the bay. Can anyone tell me about the history of these? They are unique, at least I have never seen them before.
The Obverse die is an 1884, not sure if it is a CC or not, I have not tried to VAM it - but I think so.
The Reverse die is an 1878 CC

So I removed the image. To make the point I originally intended to make, which was showing a "mirror image" appearance of a die face, I went to Fred Weinberg's site and found a useful image of an item he has for sale:
<< <i>not a copy of a die if you consider dies should appear as "mirror images" like this one:
They're not copies of dies, rather, they're strikes made from canceled dies.

that makes much more sense

<< <i>I think those are legit - they have recovered hundreds of CC dies from the old mint site and a number of trial strikes exist. I think they are issuing them pretty judiciously tho. >>
It's from an original pair of CC dies---I had the chance to handle the original dies this past summer.
However, this pair is not from any of the dies recovered from the old CC Mint yard.
You know, that's a pretty *BIG* VAM you got there!

<< <i>They are NOT unique. >>
Oh, I know they are not unique from a "They are the only ones in existance" but they are unique in that you dont see them everyday.
I would LOVE to get one in silver - if anyone finds one let me know, I might like to pick it up!
Mine is made of GOLD and Silver
