Shows you how much I am paying attention to what I am buying. I saw "RIP" and bought one of each. I thought the OPC was included in the rip. Thats pretty cool.
Thanks Bill, I was really happy with the centering on both, especially the Ripken. I may try and sub them on the group sub if I can find time to put something together this weekend.
Nothing for me, but darn fun. $40 more than worth it--reminded me how I got addicted to baseball collecting. In the future, this cannot be as fun as there is no such thing as off-centering, wax stains, etc...
The title of this thread is "Lets see your hits" - you'll notice there are no scans in my message. No hits to show!
I did two of the baseball runs, and while it was still a good deal for the money, I struck out big time. Almost NO star power at all. I got a couple of Ripkens, but all were o/c. Only notable rookie I got was an 84 Topps Strawberry - not even that notable. My Fleer cards were pretty well-centered, but Donruss was awful. Topps was Topps - hit and miss.
There should be plenty of great stuff out there still - because I didn't get any of it. But it was fun to see some cards I have not seen for a long time.
I'd love to do a rack-pack run or something like that next time. Racks just seem to yield so much better condition cards. not the grocery acks, but just regular racks.
Thanks for putting this together - it was still a blast to open.
Wow, an FF and a Griffey RC. That would have made my day right there. Imagine pulling those back in the day. I received my packs yesterday. Did one football and one baseball. Its going to be a slow rip for me as I have to maximize the entertainment value on these. I ripped the 89 baseball last night and got zero star power. I added a 1980 football rack but they sent me a 1980 baseball wax instead. I think I'm going to take it as a sign and keep the baseball pack. Hopefully its got a Henderson.
Received my packs yesterday. Didn't get anything huge but a fun rip none the less. I will scan some of my better cards.
The year was 1989, Nintendo ruled video games, and Score released their first set of football cards. Another newcomer, Pro Set hit the market with their craptacular cards. At least it's not as bad as the following years.
The Elway and Montana came back-to-back, nice pack. I was really hoping for an Elway or Marino RC out of the '84 packs but no luck. I did get some guy named Eric something though.
Growing up in Miami, I saw a lot of Dolphins games and even went to some. So while cards of the 'Marks Brothers' may not be highly desired, I was happy to pull them. I also pulled several nice stickers out of the packs.
I received my packs and ripped them all, but found nothing worth scanning. It was fun though and I would do it again in a minute.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
Here is my favorite card I pulled from the football rip... as soon as I pulled it I new it would make a great TTM - Sent it out on Tuesday and got it back today! Jim is a great TTM'er!
Ripped my baseball and football.. Nothing worth scanning, no stars in Football at all.. In Baseball I got 81 henderson 99/1 centering right to left and a 81 Ryan (80/20) centering..

I finished the baseball rip tonight. No big rookies to speak of, a few hall of famers. A lot of fun though, brought back a lot of memories. Mostly memories of me pulling commons. lol
I believe only 10 people have reported in so far on the baseball rips and 7 on the football rips. I'm going to rip my football run today. Here's whats been reported so far:
<< <i>Is it possible to reseal/counterfeit the Upper Deck foil packs? Could it be possible that the UD factory had an old topps card laying around and just happen to slip into the production line?
One of the most bizarre instances i've seen. >>
I dont think counterfeitting would be the way. Resealing has to be it. I never thought modern foil could be resealed but it can. Nothing seems to be 100% safe anymore. You need a degree in scamming before you can wisely collect nowdays.

But if you have the technology to reseal foil packs why would you throw an 82 Topps card in there. I mean why put anything in there at all. It could simply be a pack missing a card. It just doesn't make any sense. Its like a bad conspiracy orchestrated my Rick Mahler, himself.

<< <i>I just realized... Did BBCE throw in the OPC and Leaf packs? >>
Good catch, they did. The Pro Set packs of football were throw ins as well. Awesome service.

Well not just that. That service also made a sale, as I'll be placing an order for some 87 and 88 OPC later this week.
It's refreshing to see places that get business right.

Gum came off the back of my 1987 Pete Rose perfectly after a day in the freezer, by the way.
Nice pulls with a Moon to boot
Here's the Ripken that I pulled. Do you think the centering will preclude it from being a 10? (Dirt is either on toploader or scanner!)

Yeah, I think the slight tilt will probably keep it out of a 10 holder.
I don't submit a lot of 1980s, so I would appreciate opinions if any of these are gradable (I know most are not).
Here are the 81-84 baseball highlights. More to come...
The Palmers were in the same pack
The Bench's were in the same pack...next to each other

The 1983 Donruss box we got was searched. I had 3 cards in my one pack with wax stains on the back.
My best hits were from a few 1983 Fleer grocery racks I added. Got Boggs, Sandberg and Ripken from one pack.

<< <i>What do you think of the Monk, will it grade well?
I would say 8/9 due to r/l centering.
