<< <i>I stand corrected then , you have the 50-D of your dreams and for just a few hundred dollars will be able to add the

    colorful 60,61, and 62 "D" mints you've been looking for . >>

Paul, I HAVE those 3 coins, although I'd like to upgrade all of them either toning wise, technically or both. They were the last 3 coins that I bought for the set. I JUST bought the '60-D this week past. It is only an NGC MS64, and all the rest of my set is MS65 or better, so I'm still not quite officially done with completing the set. From the images it looks really sweet toning wise, so I'm looking forward to getting it sometime this week.

    Bushmaster,

I'm the new owner of that 1961 PCGS MS-65 Frankie toner from Teletrade the other week. That coin is all there - luster and color, and then some (pics will be taken soon), plus I've never seen a '61-P like that. I'm sure there will be some that poo-poo that coin and said I paid way too much, but I really like it; I consider it a monster. It does look better in hand than the Teletrade images, which really aren't too far off on the color.

Thank you, Elmer! That's a Lovely looking EOR '61! Nice pickup. image
  • Options
Congrats Erik! I don't think you overpaid, especially as you say it is even nicer than the TT pic!

If that color was on the obv it would fetch $1K.

I was bidding on that, but didn't realize it would sell for that much!

    Beautiful EOR toning though image

.........now Elmer ; that is a pretty coin u got ...........and you paid really strong money for it -

but you know , me and Skyman do not like to spend that much money for one .......

we do not like to pay these huge premiums and we like to get super coins that come around once every couple of years for a

    Dick - you suck !

Glad to see you post a monster ; if these feller's were to see some of the Franklins you got socked away

    .........they would drop dead !

How much is the 57-D above ?

Now you know I'm not supposed to sell anything in this forum. Are you trying to get me kicked off? image

...on another note, can you believe they didn't star this baby!!!

I had a monster '57-d Frankie that didn't star at NGC too. But they hand out stars to '58-d with so so toning.

I had a couple equally colorful coins come back w/o stars last month. I figured it must have been because the color was on reverse.

But MrD, yours would indicate just stupidity as being the culprit!

Ummmm, PP, it's all relative. I have NO problem with what Elmer paid for that coin. If I was in the market for that date/mm I'd certainly have forked out that amount for that coin. It's a great looker for the date/mm. To me a rare coin that you can buy for 3 figures may have a "huge" premium, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't much at all. I've only paid more than $1,000 for an MS Franklin 4 times, and even the most expensive one, my '49-D, back when Franklins were a LOT more expensive, was around $3,000.

BTW, regarding tough date toners. I just posted to the boards the 1960-D I got this week.

EDITED TO ADD: That's a really sweet '57-D you posted Dick. As per norm, the starring policy at NGC is scratch your head.

    << <i>What about the 62-D?

On Yahaski's list I would remove the 60-P and replace it with 62-D. >>

Bushmaster - here's a 62-D for you (coin is much nicer than I can capture in a pic). Like PawPaul, I too only have a couple. One of the last dates for Skyman to find. Gotta be a tough date!

    R. Tomaska mentioned that NGC has some kind of fetish about the 57-D getting a *star ;

I think he said they have not handed out a single one for the 1957-D in 66 FBL !

.....I sold that coin raw couple years back - figured it was to "way out" to ever get slabbed -

in fact the person that bought it wanted my personal guarantee it would slab........

..... right ............, like i would sell a Rainbow like this if it had a prayer of getting the nod .........

I think I saw it in a NGC 63 or 64 holder recently image

Ya' never know, eh? From the pics it looks like it could be real. I take it in hand it was a little more, ummm, how shall we put this, exuberant?

    PawPaulPawPaul Posts: 5,845
.......the coin in hand is one of the most amazing toned post 1958 Franklin's I ever laid eye's on .........

as I remember - it appeared to the eye to be all of MS-65 , so it's odd it's in a MS63 slab.

At any rate - if it were in a PCGS MS65 holder , I would happily pay 2000$ for it !!!!

    MrDMrD Posts: 2,589 ✭✭✭

    yes - i think the pix is exuberant , AND THE COIN in hand is even MORE exuberant ;

now, what does exuberant mean ?

The 61-P reminds me of a 61 that segoja made ~ 15 yrs ago that was PCGS66. I just thought it might be the same one...

    Another tough date Frankie toner.

The first pic is one I posted to Pug's series a couple years ago.

The second pic is one I just took, after some practice, and reading Mr. Goodman's photo book. Getting better, but still a ways to go. This 49 has red and greens around the entire obverse periphery and I can't get it all onto a pic. Someday!
