Here is a picture of the government running hog wild. (Obverse Low 8)
Here is a picture of the ego now displayed by more politicians in Washinginton. (Reverse Low 8)
Here is a picture of what the politicians are now doing with our money and the U.S. dollar. (Obverse Low 12)
And here is picture fo how stubborn most politicians are and how willing they are to listen to the concerns and opinions of the people (reverse Low 12)
And here is a current view of the ship of state becuase of bungling by BOTH political parties. (Reverse Low 64)
And here is a portrait of the professional economist who are working to fix our problems with bail-outs. (sorry it's not a hard times token)
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
all the NYC tokens make me think of what it must have been like here back then...... slums, garbage, rats, vagabonds, overpopulated.........I wonder if it was any better back then?
This piece mentions both the Merchants Exchange and the Tontine Building, a fascinating bit of early New York commercial history. A "tontine" is a legal device whereby survivors divide an investment and/or its dividends at some specified future point, while those who have died (or, more properly, their heirs) receive nothing. The Tontine Building was capitalized by 203 initial merchants, who devised a tontine to divide the money when the survivors numbered only seven persons remaining! The scheme is now banned in both the United States and Great Britain, because it provides a powerful incentive for investors to kill one another.
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
