Recently won this on eBay - listed in British Historical Medals as BHM 384 and by Dalton & Hamer as Hampshire Southampton D&H 7. Dalton & Hamer listed this and its D&H 6 variation as "fairly common". The difference between #6 and #7 is the presence of the stop after the date on the reverse. While #6 does seem to be fairly common (larger collections have had an example) it seems that #7 must be a fair bit rarer. The only reference I have of one showing up at an auction was the legendary Noble sale of 1998. Both the picture in Dalton & Hamer and in the Noble sale has the flaw on the reverse as mine does. I talked to Dr. Sriro about this token and his database of Conder tokens includes only 4 auctions of #7, including my purchase on eBay.
There are quite a number of different tokens and medals commemorating the British fleet under Admiral Howe defeating the French on June 1. Many refer to "the glorious first of June", and "may the French ever remember the first of June".
I was the only bidder and I figure I was quite lucky to get this for the opening bid of £50.00.

Sorry for the poor photo quality - I had to get it back in the safety deposit box before flying to another city! You may notice a reddish-brown toning on the right side of the obverse - this occurred due to poor storage, namely in a flip directly in a red-velvet case.

My latest acquisition: 2009 PCGS MS69 Silver Britannia
The spot on the neck is on the slab. The little spots in the obverse field are there, but the photo accentuates them, they're not as noticeable in-hand. The reverse design is a repeat of the original 1997 Nathan design, also repeated in 1999, which I think is one of the better designs. I wish they'd come up with something new for this year, though. Photo is taken using a slightly modified axial lighting setup, which I've discussed in other posts. This catches me up on the series for this year, although I'm still on the lookout for the 2007, the last issue I need for a complete MS69 set. This'll be going into my registry set when the slot opens up Monday.

It is slightly aggravating to have to keep clicking several times to be able to get to the most recent posts, but it's only a minor annoyance for me.
On the other hand, maybe it's time to start "British Coin Friday, Part II" and include a link to these first twelve pages of posts for those who want to review all the previously posted nice coins? I've seen that done in other threads before.
After all, I see a lot of really cool coins and information in this thread, at least for those of us that are new to World Coins.

Good tip, Bob. I'm still experimenting with those settings, and instead of clicking on "next" or a specific page number, we can just also click on the double arrows ( << ) to go to the first or last page in a thread, which I had forgotten about.
Meanwhile, I've been a member here for three years, and believe it or not, this is the first time I've ever checked into that "customize" area. Thanks to you, I'm now using the "dark night" color theme and can read the posts much easier.
Now to just figure out what "left cell color" and "right cell color" do.
