get to know ebay and have absolutely no problems until something changes. They can't handle the change
and the frustration sets in.
Happens to me all the time but I eventually learn a new comfort level and plod on.

PS: right now I love ebay. Last week I was real uncomfortable with ebay.
$120 pickup arrived today off ebay:
Guess I am not people.

+1
-seller fees plus paypal(mandatory) fees takes a huge chunk of a profit.
-too much crap being sold from china that is obvious counterfeit and ebay lets it go
-too many "copy" and "replica" auctions gumming up searches(what is the point of a replica JM gold bar?)
I don't hate it, but all they allow to slide really annoys me and forcing you to pay a fee twice for your auction takes away alot of your profit.

Dozens of problems running at a time.
It's the eBay math.

I think it's closer to Millions of auctions running at a time, and I would wager that less than 1/100% have issues.
I know why I hate it, the run it like they are they are all powerful, you can not get anyone to talk to you and if you disagree with what they tell you too darn bad.
I think it is the worst customer service of any company. I would rather call my cell phone company than them.
Crooks get away with anything they want and honest people get shafted. I wish yahoo auctions could have stayed around long enough to give them a run but just like every company someone will one day create a better place and I can't wait for the day where people can find it. No more replicas and no more junk.
Just imagine if a Heritage offered an ebay style auction site, ebay's coin listings would drop a great deal. I think too many people are getting ripped off there and it makes me angry. No moral or ethics of any kind and ebay just doesn't care.
As a buyer you can really have fun making power sellers jump thru hoops for fear that a neg feedback or even worse all 1 star ratings will wipe out the 20% discount that month for most sellers who sell under 50 coins a month.
Google "screw ebay" and there are over 2,000,000 results.

My point exactly. You just used better (read: more accurate) numbers.

They cancelled my six auctions tonight because I forgot to remove the "check/mo" thing in my terms. I only do true auctions. No shilling, $0.01 start, no reserves, great pics, 7 day return, free shipping. Two of my six auctions were featured. They told me that I lost my fees for listing due to the .....GASP.......dreadful violation. They also lost the final value fees. Bunch of C-level low-level college grads work there.
I contacted them tonight and told them that they SUCK! They didn't like that. It was once a great site. They got too big, outsourced the customer service to distant lands, etc.
I'm a careful buyer and seller and on average I clear enough to buy more coins.

In a chaotic environment new workers cannot become adjusted and tend to quickly become disenchanted by the constant grumbling of the veterans. And, though they grumble a lot, the veterans tend to stick around longer because they have memories of what once was and what could have been.
In a truly chaotic environment wherein the workers suggestions and hard work gets ignored, either due to the chaos itself or gross mismanagement, these veterans tend to go one of two ways. They either sit and quietly stew, being less and less productive with each passing week, or, they complain loudly (verging on outright b*tching), getting less and less productive with each passing weak. The latter tend to depart the scene sooner, many times because their personality caused them to react to the chaotic environment in a way that didn't sit well with their coworkers.
This is what eBay has been going through, intensely, for the past year and a half. And, in my opinion, is why "people hate eBay so much". Personally, I don't hate eBay. I feel sorry for it, and its workers (sellers). A lot of *good* has taken place with the eBay microcosm over the past couple of years. But it has all been buried in the chaotic environment... and the hive mentality of "the people" is now to be disgruntled with it.
I think I'm talking about ebay. Or maybe it's about relationships. Whatever. That's why people separate. From ebay or other things.
Lance.
<< <i>Why do people hate Ebay so much? >>
People hate just about anything, but my sense of the hate directed towards Ebay is because of corporate greed.
<< <i>Ebay started off as such a cool deal but over the years the fees and the problems just make folks want a better option. >>
i agree. to me they have gotten away from their humble beginnings
and this is not what made them popular. buy it nows are a good example
of something that changed them in a very serious way in my mind.
more of those then true auctions in areas i look at.
I did find out that the seller cannot solicit payment by Check / Money order, but the buyer can, if they do then you can accept that type of payment. The only trouble is how to word the terms to let them know.

I have had nothing but great experiences with eBay. I am just a buyer, not a seller.
From what I understand, the sellers have different issues.
I buy from basically a few sellers, and have had great transactions, with great coins.
Pretty happy with eBay.
