This is gonna hurt.

After escaping serious injury in a car crash tonight, I realized that the whole incident is gonna hurt a lot more in the wallet than any where else. So it looks like I'll be parting soon with some of the better stuff that I've aquired in the last few years. I've got some big decisions to make on what will go, but I expect that it will only be a few days before I get moving on this. Stay tuned, or just check on my posts over at the BST.

I hope you don't have to sell your coins because of it.
I hope things work out for you.
Everything else will fall into it's own place.
<< <i>If a CU forum fund is formed to help, I'll be able to add a some, THANK GOD your not hurt !! >>
Agreed. That's the important thing. Possessions can be replaced. Been there. Done that.

I collect all 20th century series except gold including those series that ended there.
<< <i>Very glad no serious injuries - but I bet you'll be sore tomorrow in places you didn't know you had. The day after is usually miserable if you've been jarred around.
I hope you don't have to sell your coins because of it. >>
Definitely take it easy! Was rear-ended last year and felt 100% ok right after. The next morning I was in the hospital getting x-rays and had several major bruises on my knees/legs, could hardly walk. Guess I hit the dash pretty hard and at the time was sort of in shock so didn't realize it.
Glad to hear no serious injuries though.

However, the fact that the fellow ahead did not speak english has nothing to do with your financial situation. You hit him, therefore it is you who is at fault and your insurance company will likely be forking over cash to him.
Sorry you may have to sell some of your coins, but it looks to me that if one accident puts you in this financial bind you probably should have been taking the money you've been spending on coins and putting it into savings instead.
Some may call the above harsh, most will call it common sense.
<< <i>So your saying you ran into a person of unkown origin that speeka no English that may or may not be a legal U.S. citizen. What did the police say.Who's fault was it? >>
He ran into the back of them. It is always the person in the back that takes the legal hit of fault.
Like others have said at least nobody was hurt.

I'm no lawyer, but I do know this...when I'm driving and my vision is obstructed for whatever reason, I presume there is something in the road ahead of me and I slow down dramatically just in case there is something there, and then I have time to stop. "Cresting a hill at 45 mph" if you can't see what is on the other side of the hill, certainly was a very bad idea...the key is to learn from the mistake and as mentioned...good thing you escaped serious injury.

Thats called expecting the unexpected. In a rear end situation the rear ender is almost always at fault.
Brother......does "no collision insurance" mean no insurance at all? I always thought liability insurance (where the other driver is covered) was the least insurance you could get.
To keep it coin related: I wish you good luck in selling your coins.

No; it just means that by dropping collision coverage that you eat any loss if there is a wreck. There is a point where vehicle value is not worth it and a claim on a 10 year old vehicle is a nuisance/PITA to your insurance carrier. It is separate and apart from liabilty which is required since a $300 clunker can hurt someone just as badly or kill smoeone just as dead as a $80K Mercedes can.

<< <i>Rural highway returning from board member Smitty's shop at dusk. Cresting a hill at 45 mph, and wham! An SUV stopped dead ahead to avoid deer crossing. Probably totaled. No collision insurance. Other driver no hablo ingles.
Sorry to hear this! Good to hear everyone is OK!
Hang in there, all will work out!

<< <i>Well the important part is that you're okay. >>
agreed.
Just remember that cars and coins can be replaced.
I hope all works out for you.

Similar thing happened to me at the summit of Hwy 5 coming back into the L.A. region a couple of years ago. About 2am on a starless night -I'm humming along and WHAM...a no habla engles mustang was just left in lanes on the freeway and I whacked it at 60+ with no skid marks. Quite a suprise!
I'm glad you're OK.
