Albert Pujols supposedly won't sign rookie cards at upcoming signing, $155 per sig.

I saw where Albert Pujols is doing a signing in MO in February and it costs $155 to get him to sign something. I thought to myself that it is a high price, but I'd like to have him on a signed rookie that wasn't released signed by the manufacturer. IE, I've got a signed Topps Finest, but I wanted a regular card signed for my HOF signed rookie collection. So, I contacted the people that are doing the signing, and while they are willing to take a mailed in card, they will not take a rookie card as they say that Albert won't sign them. I thought maybe they just didn't want to deal with it, so I asked them if I was able to get it in person at the event, would he sign a rookie then. They claimed that he won't sign it even if you are there in person, that he claims they are too valuable and won't do them.

$155.00 and you can't even get a rookie signed. I know a lot of these players are quirky just like we are, since we are all human beings, but sometimes it borders on being ridiculous. Here is a link to the signing:

Wow, you pay $155 for a signature, but he won't sign a rookie card because it makes it too valuable? I'd now like to hear from all the Pujols fans and see what their defense of that garbage is.
  • I read that as he doesn't want to hurt a valuable card by writing on it.

This is just like golfers who won't sign golf balls anymore. What the heck does any celebrity care what they sign as long as it's not degrading or pornographic? ESPECIALLY when you're PAYING to have them sign it.

There has to be more to this story. I am sure he could care less what the value of his cards are, signed or not. Maybe its written in a contract with Topps/UD that he can not sign his rookie cards.

That stinks. No wonder it is impossible to find a Topps Traded PSA/DNA card.

I would have to agree with this. Maybe it was in one of his original card company contracts.
  • I wish it were a little closer so I could try it in person for you, but it's about a 3 hour drive for me. There are a couple of board members I know of that are close to that area though.

as far as memorabilia, he signs mainly for his Charity Foundation link

I think it's completely retarded when players won't sign a particular card or write a particular inscription. E.g. - Art Monk won't sign his rc, Lynn Swann won't sign his Goal Line Art card, Joe Namath won't sign any insriptions... It makes no sense to me..

  • "People have said, “Albert, I would give anything to be able to play baseball like you.” They may look at my abilities and think that being a great baseball player is the goal of my life. Believe it or not, baseball is not the chief ambition of my life. Becoming a great baseball player is important to me, but it is not my primary focus. Because I know the Hall of Fame is not my ultimate final destination.

My life’s goal is to bring glory to Jesus. My life is not mostly dedicated to the Lord, it is 100% committed to Jesus Christ and His will. God has given me the ability to succeed in the game of baseball. But baseball is not the end; baseball is the means by which Dee Dee and I glorify God. Baseball is simply my platform to elevate Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

"I would also rather be known as a great husband and father than an All-Star baseball player. Perhaps one day I could be honored with an invitation into Baseball’s Hall of Fame. That would certainly be a boyhood dream of mine come true, but it is a far greater honor that one day I will be in heaven with God to enjoy Him forever.

How do I know that I will spend eternity with God in heaven?

Simple, because I charge $155 for my magical signature and I'm buying my way into heaven...and if there is ANY money leftover I'll take Fandango with me... Now step off haters i gotta go count my greenbacks. " And next year, im charging double! and the only thing I'll sign is your scrotums!"

I guess it's easier to be critical of someone, rather than give them credit for a good deed that will help others. Typical of certain folks on here.. image
