2.67 here in southern Wisconsin today. I work in Illinois and still see the crazy prices they are paying down there. Most times Illinois gas is 40-50 cents higher than what I am paying and I am only talking a distance of 20 miles from where I am at.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Paid $2.17 at Krogers ($0.50 discount).
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,951 ✭✭✭✭
Well, if you want to talk discounts, check out this video (sorry if the link doesn't work). My local grocery store (Giant Eagle) offers "Fuel Perks" where you earn $0.20 off per gallon (limit 30 gallons) for every $50 you spend. Not difficult to earn a free tank's worth of gas. Right now I have over $6.00 off PER GALLON of gas. I drive a Suburban with a 42 gallon tank, so it's pretty easy for me to use the entire 30 gallons. Good times!!

EDIT: For some reason my video doesn't work half the time. Oh well...

Gas is now at the level it was when it began it's steeper increase last year. It's funny that most people refer to it as "cheap" now, when they were outraged about the exact same price before.

If you think the oil companies DON'T have psychologists on the payroll, then you're in some sort of fantasy land.

Agreed. Oil was trading near $63 a barrell and I saw a report on the local news here that showed that last year when oil was at roughly the same price, the national average was $2.25......Right now according to CNN the national average was at $2.80

  • Regular was 2.39 at Sunoco, and Exxon Mobil regular was across the street at 2.99

Does anyone else find these huge differences in their area with Exxon Mobil ?
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Prices are always slower on the way down, many of the stations may have gas paid for
when it was higher. On the way up they charge more regardless what they paid for it.

The low today in my area of NY was 2.99 the high 3.40

  • Saw it for $1.85 this week at the local Sunoco. It is great to see the hedge fund managers sucking wind after driving the price of oil so high and impacting the American economy.

Wholesale Gas (RBOB) on Friday was in the 1.25 range, which means if that holds you will see 1.66-.176 soon, depending on your state gas tax.
Do not get used to it though, the futures for April/May 2009 are in the 1.50 range which means you will see gas at about $2 in the spring, still not bad, but the downward trend is about over.

I don't mind the downward trend being over. I just wish it would get stable. I have a funny feeling it will bounce back very fast the first time something major happens in the world.

  • <FONT face=Verdana size=1>Swartz, if you go the other direction from the flying J (toward the turn pike) for about 1 mile, the price drop is lower then that. The sheetz has the price at 1.79. I get a kick out of that strech of roadway... Prices can be as much as 50c different within 1 mile, and there are 8 gas stations within that 1 mile.</FONT>

  • The simple fact is that even when gas was selling for over $4.00 at the pump there was never a shortage of oil. The price increase was purely speculator driven. I wouldn't invest in oil even at the current prices. Based on world wide demand and people changing driving habits gas could fall to $1.50 or lower at the pump in the near future.

<< <i>"FYI on food prices. They won't be coming down for a long time"

indeed. This entire ethanol farce has seriously screwed over the general consumer. >>

Go Ethanol! I'm a Kansas farmer who grows corn. For years nobody wanted it and the price was usually in the 1.90 per bushel range. And the general consumer would yell, "Why does the government subsidize farmers"? Because we can't make a decent living on 1.90 corn.
Then a whole new market opened up, ethanol, and we can finally get a decent price for our corn, and the general consumer yells, "This ethanol farce is raising food prices".
To hell with the general consumer, go to Russia to buy your food if you think its too high here.

    2.04 here in Delavan, Wisconsin.

I work in Illinois and its still up over 3 bucks but at least its coming down.

I drive about 150 miles a day to and from work and its so nice to be able to put 20 bucks in and get enough gas for 2 days of driving instead of one!! As for if the drop in gas price will affect my buying....Yeah I can actually kinda pay my bills and have some food on the table now. Its been tough as my wife is a cancer survivor and just cannot work so its all on me right now. I have applied for a huge amount of part time jobs but just cannot seem to get one because of my 1st job's work schedule. I even applied at Walmart to be a cashier and have heard nothing. Its tough out there!!
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
