How much is gas where you live? Will the drop effect your buying?

People were lined up yesterday for $3.09 here in western KY. My wife was down in Tennessee last night and saw $2.93. I know my 401k is taking a hit right now, but I do like the gas prices going lower.

    God day,

  • The price of gas should be much lower; demand is dropping quite a bit. Folks are worried about their jobs, the savings and their retirement funs disappearing. Fear rules the marketplace at the moment. gas is $2.92 here, lowest in a long time. Unfortunately if you look at your 401k its probably lost 40-60% of its value. Pennies at the pump vs. Tens of thousands in your retirement account.

Gas is still way overpriced the entire run-up in the past year was all speculation and manipulation.

It makes me sick, my dad is less than 10 years from retirement, and his 401k has dropped by 40% in value...another $4,000 yesterday alone. He's wanting to pull it out and throw it into a CD for 9 months to ride it out...I've asked him not to, but I really don't know what he should do.

As for gas...I've seen it as low as $3.09.

Gas is 3.70ish in northern Virginia. As for buying stuff, I am about the same, but much more selective
for sure. I am very lucky to be in the DC metro area.

Boy, I hate to be selling (for a living) right now.

I am sure sibmissions for all the grading companies are down. I wonder if any of the grading companies, at
least the big ones, will disappear.

Don't get out of the market unless you have to. It's not a loss until you sell.

Agreed. 10 years is still a long time. I've said this before, but it seems like stocks are the only thing people hate to buy on sale. Right now, they're on sale. Now is the time to buy!

    As far as gas...about $2.89

I just filled up for $2.89 a gallon. As for buying cards, the "lower" gas prices won't affect it much. I have a monthly budget and anything extra goes into my money market account along with my usual allotment.

I just filled up for $2.97 about fifteen miles east of Cincinnati. My card buying pattern hasn't changed; I usually don't buy as much this time of year, anyway.

Thanks for the input guys...I begged him not to and told him it was all on paper anyway...he doesn't actually have a need for the money now, so why fret. He's running scared though...I just hope I've convinced him to do otherwise. I told him he'd forget about the troubles in 5 years time...I just hope that's the case.

Yea, but all the current stuff on the store shelves still has the old gas prices (freight costs) factored in - Prices on consumer goods, food, etc., will be coming down...at least it should be coming down.

filled up this morning for $2.86. live in Parma Ohio which is suburb of Cleveland. This was at a BJ's which is similar to Sam's Club, Costco, etc. also as far as savings go, my thrift savings account (worked for DOD and this is what they call our 401 type savings) has gone down approximately 35% since last October when I retired....it's hitting everyone, but as someone else mentioned it's not a loss yet as long as you leave it in and don't take the loss.....my hope is that by the time I'm in my early 60's the market will rebound and eliminate my current state of dreadimage

    $2.89 in Northern Indiana.

FYI on food prices. They won't be coming down for a long time. Do some research on the Sugar and Steel industries and you will see they are the cause of high prices more than gas. Government subsidies and having one guy own almost all one industry are not good for the consumer.

  • 2.59 in Central PA. As far as food prices, I agree they will stay higher... But more due to grains being used for Ethanol (sp), limiting the supply to cattle (milk and beef), cereals, etc.. which until the Gas issues are resolved expect to pay more for food..

I work in the food industry and see this trend continuing..

Most sophisticated manufacturers use rail cars to deliver so gas isn't what is causing alot of the issues. Products we buy made out of corn, wheat and soybeans have only marginally gone up the last year. There was alot of huffing and puffing by starch and corn syrup manufacturers but the reality is ethanol has not caught on. They are scuttling plans for building more ethanol capacity at places like Cargill. The real issue with ethanol is water consumption.

Our steel can pricing has gone up 80% and sugar pricing if you can find a supplier has almost doubled. People are shying away from Chinese imports so pricing on citric acid, garlic and onions has really hit the roof as well. China having terrible food safety controls makes doing buisness with them very hard. China having 100% of the ascorbic acid market makes me very scared about kid safety.
