Australian coin sold out

I just had to have one of those new "Treasures of Australia" coins. The one I have is with the opals (they have a locket with 4 small opals inside) these coins are awesome with only 7500 minted. Mine is a proof. Anyone see these yet and any opinions? Probably on the wrong board but I don't usually collect anything but U.S. coins. I don't have pictures because I am photography/computer challenged.

That's pretty cool, is that just a plastic insert that goes all the way through the coin? Is it removable or permanent?

From what I can tell it is permanent but I am not sure because I hesitate to take it out of the holder from lessons learned in the past about my gracefulness. It goes all the way through. The coin is really thick and weighs 1 troy ounce. It is really neat. I purchased it from the Perth mint as they were on Ebay for double the price. They had the same coin with sapphires which is sold out as well.
  • Oops this coin is not sold out, although the price when I puchased it was $58 and now the price is $64. They also have a gold version which is really cool and out of my price range.image

I won't mind a modified design of such a coin with the plastic compartment being hinged or accessible for opening.
Dependent upon the design I could see using it for a carrying around medications (which are sometimes needed on the road, such as when at a show) or even breath mints.

The gold Sapphire is available too.

    Joe

This site has the Sapphire available, I think? 160 AUS, $112

I do not know this site so I can't vouch for them. Maybe someone else has dealt with them.

The Mint seems to be like the Franklin Mint and isn't owned by the National Government. It's owned by the State Government of Western Australia.

Yes .. there are some interesing & different coins out there. The old and boring designs are fading fast...as an example..

Cook Island $20 Botticelli's Venus Rising...
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
  • looks like a trinket from the circus or gumball machine
