  • For $20 Saints I have found them to be very good. For example, I bought a 1913 $20 graded MS62 by ICG, which I thought should go MS63. I sent it in to PCGS and it came back as a MS62. Bottom line is that the coin is one of the highest graded MS62 1913 in my collection. I would call it a MS62.99. When there is a $1,000 difference between MS62 and MS63 the TPG call it a little closer.

They are like all the others. They charge you a fee, a few guy look at your coin, then check the cert #'s of that coin. Also they check with the coins they have in their collection and make sure if they give you a high grade how will affect the value of their collection.

After all of this is taken in facts they hold your coin for three weeks then send you the coin back. If you are not happy, open up your check book and try it again. Oh BTW if you decide to sell it on ebay the experts will snatch up that low grade coin of yours and then reprocess it through the grading company with a extra Honeybun($100) and then the coin comes back a higher grade.

So ICG is fine just pay them.

I just noticed that ICG doesn't put FB on Mercury dimes. Is this true or did they miss one ?

man YaHa, i though i went through life as a skeptic but you have me beat.....i dont think TPG are as evil and deliberate as you make them sound

    this line was especially disturbing:
    >> Also they check with the coins they have in their collection and make sure if they give you a high grade how will affect the value of their collection>>

i'll be willing to bet that never happens......and to answer the OP's original question ICG is fine.....they are usually spot on for circulated material and the only critique might be that they are a little loose on the MS/PF 66 and up grades

When ICG first started, they were grading much like PCGS. After a couple of years, they became more liberal with their grades. Now, it is hard to sell coins in ICG holders. Too bad for ICG, and for those of us that own their graded coins. image

I agree to a point. Yes, they did become excessively liberal with recent "Modern Junk" (post 1964) but remained fairly conservative with the pre 1940 stuff.

If you do not care about resell ICG is decent. This game is played with just 2 big players and ICG is not one of them. As yaha said some swoop in on ICG and send them to the 2 big slabbers and flip for profit. You should keep the profit to yourself and bypass icg.

  • Yaha is being sarcastic.

At least I hope he is because his post is filled with numerous accusations of bribery, lies etc. The graders at any of the top services do this for a living and their reputation depends upon honesty, integrity and accuracy.

-Grading companies don't hold your coins for weeks just to make turnaround times longer
-Grading companies/graders don't compare them to their coins and then undergrade so theirs is better
-Graders don't buy the freshly graded coins they just mailed out on ebay (at ICG we were forbidden to buy/sell coins, even if they were raw)
-Graders don't send their own coins into the services they work for.
-Graders don't take bribes. I have seen submissions with bills attached to them. They get taken off when the coins are entered by customer service and the money sent back with the coins.

The list goes on and on. I felt the need to reply since many newbies might read yaha's post even if it was sarcastic and might think it is the truth.

Cammy you know I just a playin. I love to make people lean on that fence in life. ICG is fine and dandy. I will put up many of my ICG graded coins against NGC and PCGS slabs.

Cammy as you well know the top players get the cash for the high graded slabs. It's a shame ICG isn't respected more. I love all my coins and to all newbies ICG is worth the chance/choice at some of your coins because they are right there with NGC and PCGS.

Why bother with ICG? You may get the grade you want, but you won't get the value you want.

A self fulfilling prophecy. Many years ago, it was said that if a stock was not listed on the NYSE, it was not worth buying, or wouldn't bring its true value. At least since the 1950s, stocks listed on the NASDAQ, or AMEX have been analyzed and priced ON THEIR MERITS, not on some unwarranted "discount" based on their association with the a "wrong" brand name for marketing purposes.

The wise "buy the coin, not the slab" philosophy has given way to meaningless "endorsements" of grading services by nonprofit associations and powerful trade groups (The ANA and PNG, respectively) attempts to restict trade in certain slabs, even "whisper" or overt boycotts "don't buy from "dealer x" because he sells coins slabbed by "company Y" "

    Barry makes a good point.
If you see a sweet coin and it's in an ICG holder, sure, buy the coin.
But if you're thinking of sending in raw coins to grade, why in the world would you send them to ICG and not PCGS? In the end your coins will be more liquid in PCGS holders and perceived by the marketplace as more valuable.

Life is full of changes. Even for top grading companies.

You'll learn this when you become older.
