I have the worst luck-- I found coins wrapped in tissue paper for 25 years, and not a single wildly
Yesterday, Longacre piled the kiddies into the car, and visited his parents. Not only is it a pleasure to visit with the folks, but I get a home cooked meal to boot (Mrs. Longacre, on the other hand, would not know a fresh pot of homemade spaghetti sauce on a Sunday afternoon if it bit her on the a$$).
So I am enjoying my dinner, when my mother says, “oh, Longacre, I cleaned out the basement, and I found some of your old coins.” Now Longacre nearly choked on the spicy meatball when he heard this. So I scurried to the basement to see what the loot was.
It seems that there were three little glass jars (like jelly jars), that I packed with Kleenex and put coins into, way back when I was a kid. I got whipped up into a frenzy when I saw the jars, because I remember the people on these boards who wrapped coins in Taco Bell napkins for a week or two, and the wildly toned coins they got as a result. These coins, on the other hand, were in the jars and the tissue for 25 years !!
Well, I unwrapped the coins, and was very disappointed. The Kleenex contained Lincoln cents (really nice ones that I pulled out of circulation) from the 1982-1984 era, and a few Jefferson nickels from the same dates. There was no change with the nickels, as expected. For the Lincolns, I was a little shocked. On almost all of them, there was really no change in the look and no dramatic toning. On one of the coins (I think the one from 1982 or 1983), the coin took on a really, really nice orange-ish toning on both the obverse and reverse, almost in large streaks. Other than that one, there were no others that I would consider worthy of putting up on Ebay and making a fortune off of.
PS. The day was not a complete washout. My mother also found the jacket sleeve of my Goats Head Soup album which was signed by Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones. I have to now write my first post to the autograph forum.

Spoken like a man who either hasn't been married for long, or won't be married for long.
To the OP, last year I found some jars of Lincoln Cents I'd set aside around 1987 or 1988. Unfortunately at some point moisture had seeped into the one jar the the coins inside were an absolute mess. I doubt a CoinStar machine could process half of them they were so corroded. Even if you can't sell yours on eBay for millions, be glad you can still spend them for a cent.

Later that evening, while the family enjoyed hand-rolled Dominican cigars in the Spanish cedar - lined conservatory:
"Longacre, I found your first smoking jacket tucked away with your old baby clothes. Isn't it cute? Look, here's a burn hole from where you dropped some ashes."
Longacre took the tiny accoutrement in his hands. "I remember," he whispered. "Baby's first maduro panatela. Those were good times."

PS. As we speak, I am tapping away a few keystrokes to update my Whitman Redbook library. I've fallen behind on a few of the books, but not for long...

<< <i>Problem is the jars were sealed! No moisture, no toning!!! >>
Actually, no sulphur, no toning...same principle...
??
One of the ideas behind numismatic tissure paper was to retard tarnish.
And one of the reason why monster toned coins are expensive is because no one as a fool proof way of duplicating the REAL thing.
