When you attend a coin show, do you stop by to say "Hi" to dealers who post on the forum?
...and if not...how come? I'm just curious...really.
No hard feelings but sometimes I read posts from folks who attended a show I was set up at and I have no idea who they are. Makes me wanna do a "pit check" or something, ya know?

Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

<< <i>I would not know a poster here from anyone else unless they had their screen name posted on their forehead. Well maybe a few I would know only because I've meet them through transactions. >>
It would be nice if dealers would advertise like put a sign that says PCGS BOARD Member so we non-dealers can definitely come over and say Hello or better yet buy from you instead of the other guy .
Just kidding, I would not know if I ran into a forum member IRL or not. I however do worry that I may post a score and have someone I bought from feel the sting of being cherrypicked.

Josh is one of the nicest dealers I've met. Very knowledgeable also, especially about Ancient coins.

Hey, you know what we need??
We need to print up some pin-back buttons that say "PCGS Forum"
or something simalarly short and punchy on them.
All of us chip in a few dollars, have them made, ship them out
and wear them whenever we go to a show.
We won't know which member it is, but it will be an ice breaker
to introduce yourself to them and find out who they are on the
forum.
Anyone want to volunteer to organize this project??

I think it might have been because I distracted her from the cheesesteak she was wolfing down. I thought that was odd she was eating while manning the station (Table)
<< <i>Josh of Civitas is the only dealer that post here that I of that has been to our local shows. I always make sure to stop by because he has interesting coins, even if it is not items I collect!
I did meet Josh as the same show and he was an extremely nice guy who took extra time to answer some newbie questions of mine and didn't act like I was imposing on him.

<< <i>Sadly, I have never been to a show.
Not even une petite show????
Now if there was only a way to know who was who at the coin shows.
<< <i>In addition to being my coin show dealer mentor, there isn't a nicer, or more honest coin dealer out there, than Larry. So stop by and say hello to him, and myself for that matter, if I happen to be sharing a table with him on that day.
Gee Dan, Thanks... I like you too...
Actually folks, many of the dealers on here who do shows in the metro NY area use their business name for their forum name ... and unless we are very busy we will always be glad to meet and chat with fellow board members in person... I know I always enjoy it...
Heck, even if I am busy there is always time to say "Hi"...
(and with Laura... well, I think she may be a bit paranoid with some forumites... considering some of the cat fights that went on here in her days on the forum...)
I always try to if it's someone I have dealt with before, but if the dealer is busy, I'll move on, try later, or next time. It's not easy knowing who is a forum member at shows unless you know their business name or real name. If you don't post too often (like me), introducing yourself as a forum member has a negative effect sometimes. That said, I have had some some good transactions, both sales and purchases, from a number of forum members at shows, some with no mention of the forum. I guess I need to work on my networking skills.
<< <i>I went up to Laura a couple years ago @ baltimore when she was behind the Legend table and she looked at me like I had an ice pick in my hand and planned to stab her with it... it was an extremely bizzare reaction from a dealer sitting behind a table, front and center. and believe me, it's not like I look like some crazy person

Maybe she just thought you were going to make a play for her sandwich.

chat room . More recently , I stopped by this forums dealers at baltimore this past
march show , and also at coinfest in greenwich ct last october . After reading coin show
reports , I recognized board names of those who attended coinfest . Since no one knew who
I was , they did not stop at my table . At coinfest , I did say a quick hello to Wayne Herndon ,
Jon from scarsdale , Andy Lustig , and even bought two coins from Sea Eagle .
Will stop by and say "Hi" to all in about 5 weeks .

I walked past your table this morning - about 9:00 or so, but you were not there. Sorry to have missed you. I will make sure to say HI next time.

Something simpler, perhaps. Next big show, someone go to an office supply store and pick up a package of brightly colored 3/4" stickers (the ones that people write "PQ+++++, Top end of grade, blahblahblah" on), designate a place for board members to pick one up to affix to their nametags. You'll be able to identify board members from a distance. It might even make the people that like wearing more ribbons and medals that Haile Selassie jealous.
