Returns allowed or not?
Why do Ebay sellers do this:
ebay auction with inconsistent terms
At the top right, under "Buy safely," it says
Returns: Seller accepts returns.
7 Days Money Back
At the bottom, under "Return policy," it says
Return policy details: NO RETURN ON CERTIFIED COINS
So which is it? If I bought the coin, which would Ebay/Paypal hold the seller to?
I am not a seller, so I don't know how these things work. Since I see a lot of
auctions like this, I suspect the seller just filled out a template inconsistently.
In this case, all the items offered by this seller are certified, so the obvious
question is was the seller negligent, or is he trying to pull something?
I don't mean to pick on this seller. I see this all the time with lots of different
sellers. But this particular auction showed on the day I had time to post and ask.
I sent the following to this seller:
"Return policy? In one place it says 7 days return; in another place it
says no returns on certified coins. Since all your coins for sale are
certified, this seems confusing at best and disingenuous at worst. Can
you clarify?"
But my real question is, should the issue arise, to which standard will
Ebay/Paypal hold this seller? Which standard is part of the "contract?"
Thanks,
Mark

1. If the listing is contradictory or coufusing, ask the seller about it.
2. If that is not practical (for whatever reason), assume the most restrictive or least beneficial (to me) interpretation for the listed terms.
I don't understand why people insist on using the "I can't figure out what the seller's terms really are, but PayPal will bail me out if I get in trouble" approach to bidding, but then, that's just me...
However, it never hurt to ask the seller the question directly...Mike
Especially on Certified coins, which are the EASIEST to sell… and resell if you got a return on one… I’ve never had any slabbed coins retuned (real slabs not the fake self-slabbed crap)
I think I had one return this year or it might have been last year… anyways, buyers nearly never return anything… if you have large photos and don’t scam them.
The return policy just makes them feel good.
But if you overhype, use small or stock photos, only tell them in the fine print that the Buffalo Nickels are ‘no-dates’ or something like that… then of course you’re going to get lots of returns.
