I am Grateful that ebay is not the only place to buy & sell coins...
Several years ago, I began my re-entry into the hobby thru ebay... I got burned a few times by my lack of knowledge and over-exuberence... I also made some very nice purchases...
A few years went by and I started selling on the bay, as well...
Some good experiences and some not-so-good...
Last year, between buying and selling, I did over $50,000 in business on ebay...
Then the announcements regarding the Feedback (and other) changes...
I completed my last sales in Feb. and have sat back to watch...
What an absolute circus... Thanks to all who have posted their trials and tribulations...
Ebay can take my 100% rating... my "Perfect 5" dashboard and my Powerseller status and do "you know what" with it...
Sure... a few folks like Russ, who BTW does an outstanding job on ebay, are still going along with relative success...
...but I have seen enough that I have no intention of selling there again... I suppose I MIGHT consign to someone like Russ if I had the need... but I'd rather play golf than deal with the general madness that ebay has become... if they were the only game in town, I'd quit the hobby...
I don't even bother to use their search option...way too much junk to sift thru and I find it much too frustrating... I only go to ebay if I see an interesting link on the BST... and I have won a few items this year... but nothing like last year... actually, these days, my favorite place to 'shop', besides at shows, is the BST...
I'm not sure why I posted all this... but I do feel a bit better now...

Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free

Personally I have not seen any effect of the new rules other than lower fees.
<< <i>Rules or not, I have never had an issue with a buyer on e-bay and I got a 40% discount on fees last month.

You hear a lot of stories here of bad deals, but I still think that it's not the norm. I've had no real problems, either.
<< <i>Less competition for the ones who remain.
Well...I guess you are correct...
I won't be selling so less competion for those who sold the same type of coins as I did...
And I won't be bidding (much) so that is good for those who I outbid or those who I "made" pay the price to win...
No problem... not for me...
I just want to thank all those who have kept this forum up-to-date on their adventures and mis-adventures on the bay...
Haven't seen a thing yet that makes me regret my decision...
Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.
I had one wining bidder who told me he is within his rights to ignore any and all of my terms and instead I have to ship by his method and I have to charge him less, so it wound up costing me an extra $2.43.
Anyways, one Pain in the A$$ and $2.43 less profit, oh well.... no biggie, he wasn't worth a second email, I just sent him the coin.
I'm with blu62vette, if there were shows around for me to go to, I probably would kick eBay to the curb completely. Although I don't use eBay but every once in a blue moon, I haven't had too many problems with it.
BUT, I'm with you Mr. Greenstone, I LIKE THE BST the best!!!! Wonderful experiences over there. Just wish I could afford all what I'd like to buy on there.

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>The feedback issue hasn't affected most but has affected the scammers, the retaliator negative sellers, the blurry photos guys, etc, there are still some but, many that I used to see have left EBay.

Don't you hate PITA bidders? I had an auction for a PDA. Started at $9.99. I made the mistake of having it end at a bad time. (Sunday at noon) My fault.
She got a great deal on a nice PDA. I left feedback immediately after payment. Why not? Now I know why not. No communication. Never wrote to thank me for the great deal. (Don't expect it) But never left me any feedback. Didn't write to say it didn't work. (Nothing wrong with it.) Didn't write with any problems. Just didn't leave feedback. So I checked her feedback. She had left feedback for an item the day before and the day after but nothing for me. I was nothing but courteous to her. (unlike my MO on these boards. LOL!) A month now and no feedback. I don't dare write to her and ask her why because now that I can't leave a neg to her, she could become offended and leave me a scathing negative and mess up my DSR's. In the past I followed up all my sales when the buyer would not leave feedback, explaining that feedback was how eBay worked and I got nearly 95% compliance. Most people just forgot or were too stupid to look at their FEEDBACK section in their user accounts. Once I pointed it out to them, many were repeat buyers and they always left nice feedback.
Now that I can't leave a neg, I have no leverage. I NEVER held feedback hostage. But I do feel I deserve a pos if I performed well and 99% of the time I performed well. When I didn't, we always worked it out. I've never gotten a neg while selling. I did get one neg from a buyer who didn't understand that although the ASE/SAE's he was selling were made at West Point, they were not "W" coins as he was advertising them.
If eBay didn't still make me money, and that money is shrinking, I would not be a seller on there. I recently made PowerScrewer. Didn't ask for it. Didn't even know I was eligible. Well, about 2 months after making me a PowerScrewer, they send me a certificate. It arrived the same day they told me I was no longer eligible. I received a discount one month. Saved me about 2 bucks. Woo hoo!
I'm looking forward to the 30 days for 35 cents that is coming this month. I've been holding stuff back for when they roll this out. I hate paying extra to get 10 days on a BIN, something like $0.40 for 3 extra days so this new idea is really going to save me money in the long run. Let's hope they don't raise rates somewhere else to make up for it. It doesn't cost them any more to have it up there for 30 days or even 10 days than it does for 7. Same server space. Same throughput. I host my own images so that doesn't cost them any more.
Funny, I wrote to them last year about extending the BIN's to 30 days. I don't think it was my email that got it done. Of course not. But I was thinking such a thing would be nice a year before they decided to do it.
Next email to them will emphasize the free gold to every seller. Maybe next year we'll all get a Saint in our email.

You "hit the nail square on the head," good buddy. I've been buying & selling on eBay for almost 8 years and have never lost a dime via PayPal & have never had a problem with eBay. Yes, I've had a few NPB's, but eBay does credit you with the FVF. I totaly agree, that the pendelum has swung to far in favor of the buyer, but in time it will swing back ... it always does.
...that just about everyone who posted to this thread today is in favor of ebay...
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
<< <i>I must say that I find it very odd, considering how many folks I have seen post on this forum with their complaints and horror stories about ebay... >>
"The silent majority" has finally responded. Those so called "horror stories" in most cases are one sided & lacking the whole truth.

I'm curious to know if you crunched the numbers on that. I did, and concluded that chasing the double discount with free shipping simply doesn't work for me. In fact, I'd be screwing myself. Let's look at August:
My final value fee discount came in at $456. If I'd offered free shipping, that would have been another $456. In August, I spent $1763 on shipping. I think I'm going to have to pass on eBay's wonderful offer.
