Just ripped my 1989 UD low box guess how many total of the following players I got:

Griffey Jr, Sheffield, Smoltz, Randy Johnson, Nolan Ryan, Ripken, McGwire, Gwynn, Bonds, Sandberg

Just give the combined total... 1st correct answer will win a collection of what ever is sitting on my desk!

What are your feelings about this as far as the box being searched? Do you know if BBCE has had these since 89?

Since they were foil packs from a sealed box from a sealed case, I would feel pretty certain that they were not searched.

Am I misremembering? I thought 89 UD boxes were not shrinkwrapped.

Not even Gary could open a foil pack and reseal it without anyone knowing the difference. Plus, they sure look shrinkwrapped to me.

1989 UD boxes were not shrinkwrapped at the factory. I believe Steve shrinkwraps these boxes on his own.

an extremely easy sequence. open 1 pack in a stack and you can tell if there is a Griffey in any of the other 8 packs.

That's spot on. I can't remember who it was now, but I remeber back in the day that if you got a pack with a certain player in it you knew that 4 or 5 packs lower you would find the Griffey card. It made it very easy for shop owners to mix and match packs in a box and keep the good packs for themselves.

Check the group greak thread. The other box that has been busted from the same case had a Griffey and three Johnson rookies. This was just a bad box. Funny how a bad box always means that it has been searched. BTW, the 89 UD are just like all the other UD, and some of the Fleer, in the 80's and early 90's. The sequence could easily vary. Often the cards would flip, usually in middle of pack, so sequence would change.

The UD sequence was a lot simpler than the others. It was pretty fool proof.

Im happy for the dude who pulled a Griffey. But I would be super pissed if I had paid for a whole box and Barry Bonds was the best thing I pulled.

This box was clearly not searched. It was just a very bad rip. Pulling packs is like pulling the handle on a slot machine, pure luck. By the way, if I don't get a Sanders in the 89 Score I want my money back

just curious. Based on what info can you say that "this box was clearly not searched"?

I guess there was a chance someone opened boxes till they hit the Griffey and then began filling boxes back up with the extra packs. In a normal box there should only be one maybe two Griffey's.

Who knows if it was searched or not... You have to know when you bust wax (or in this case foil) sometimes you crap out! No hard feelings on my end.
