=== === I have no hard evidence, but there is no way BBCE searched those packs, first they are foil packs making if very difficult to open and re-seal. If they were tampered with in anyway there would be physical evidence of tampering. BBCE's reputation is selling boxes and packs it just doesn't make sense to search a box of 89 upperdeck. They would be risking the jeperdy of their entire company. If one person had evidence of pack searching; their business would be over. I highly doubt that would be worth it for a couple of Griffeys. However, people have done stranger things in the past. What do I know anyway. I am just saying that it is HIGHLY doubtful these packs were searched. I have only had good experiences with them in the past. There are only 3 individuals that I will buy packs from and they are one of them and they are first on my list. I would be very interested if someone could find proof that they were tampered with them. I would like to check that out. But highly doubtful.

I dont think you read every post on this thread before making your statement. 89 UD arent searched by resealing, it's a sequencing thing. Anyway.....Im not accusing BBCE of going through the packs. As I previously wondered on this thread, the question is, have they owned the boxes since 1989, or did they buy them from someeone else, shrinkwrap them, and sell them to you guys. You gotta think, with the volume of business that they do, they don't have boxes and cases sitting around for 19 yrs. So I believe the possibility of them being searched is pretty high.

I would be shocked to hear that BBCE has had these boxes since 1989... I'm sure it was part of a purchase at some point. Their business model seems to be by stuff in large bulk and then resell.
<< <i>OK, once again, these boxes were grom a sealed case. What more do you need? >>
Really, How do you know for sure? Did you fly to BBCE to check the seal? Not looking to start anything but we just don't know for sure - how hard would it be to reseal a case? Some glue or tape.
I'm not upset I didn't pull a Griffey and I won't stop buying from BBCE but I don't trust anyone I've never met 100%
I absolutely agree that BBCE is top notch, and I consider them in the top echelon of sellers of unopened material.
However, you have to wonder how accountable can you hold a seller who might be possibly buying and selling previously searched product? I guess you really can't. BBCE makes the claim that the boxes they sell are unsearched by them, and I completely believe that.
But the point I'm making is that they cannot claim that the boxes they sell have never been searched, since they have obviously purchased them from someone else who may or may not have searched the boxes.
If any of you who purchased a box wants to PM me to further discuss indicators that your box was searched, I'll be glad to discuss it with you.
My last comment on this subject. We all admit that unopened wax is a gamble regardless of the age of the product. IMO, we all buy the older wax in hopes of finding a GEM rookie or HOF'er that can be graded and net a hefty return. If not, then why do so many people buy 1986 Topps wax boxes for about $20 with shipping when a complete MINT set can be bought at any card show for $10? I personally have bought a lot of them just looking for 10 quality Ryan's to sell for $500-1000. Another good example would be the 83 Topps box from current group break. One PSA 10 of the big 3 (Gwynn, Boggs or Sandberg) would return double what the box cost and the grading fees.
If you like busting older wax packs, boxes or cases, you have to buy from a trusted source. Who are you going to trust more than BBCE? Feel free to buy some unopened material from a random seller on eBay. You might as well just give $100 to a homeless guy. Every time I have bought wax, cello or rack boxes on eBay I have either been completely burned or at the very least received some very suspicious products. I have bought from BBCE probably 25 times, not including the group breaks, and have only had one issue. That issue was resolved with a full refund, a store credit for the amount I paid and I got to keep the suspicious packs I received. How many eBay sellers would do that?
I just find it amazing that, like all the eBay threads on here about bad deals, no one ever seems to post a thread about the good experiences. If we get good cards from the packs, no one ever seems to know. If the packs do not turn out like we want, then they are searched or resealed. I am also guilty of this too so I am not just pointing fingers. However, I do have about 100 cards ready to go to PSA, as soon as they have another $5 special, that are all cards from recent pack busts from BBCE. OK, rant over.
That sucks bro! Wonder what the deal is with these boxes lately?? I opened a box a while ago, and got two Griffeys in one pack (top card and bottom card).
We opened a sealed factory lo number upper deck case. One case from the several dozen we have. This case is originally factory sealed, along with all the ones I have. The boxes were then pulled out and shrinkwrapped, one by one. We do this on every box that leaves this warehouse. We put our business card on the bottom of every box too. We put this card on the bottom so it is linked to our name. Upper Deck did NOT shrinkwrap these boxes in anyway that year. There are cases of high numbers that had the boxes shrinkwrapped, that then went to Sam's club.
Also, Upper Deck had a terrible, terrible collation that year. There were boxes out there that had 36 Griffeys in them(1 per pack) and boxes that also had 36 Mike Harkeys in them.
There is no deception here. This is the draw. Why in the world would we play any type of game with this?? Hasn't there been enough trouble with the previous person who ran these threads? By the way, our buy prices on these cases was $1400. We sold them to everyone for $1500($75.00 per box). So after paypal fees we didnt make a damn thing. What in the world would we have to gain from playing a game here?
As far as the re-sealed 89 Donruss box....WHAT?!?!?! Just like the person said, you will find this with Donruss boxes. OK, maybe someone back in 1989 re-sealed a box to pull out the Griffeys. BUT TO THINK THEY PULLED OUT ALL THE PURPLE BORDERED CARDS??? C'MON!!! I guess the purple bordered cards had a premium(not just the Griffey purple bordered cards). Maybe someone who "searched" these back in 1989 was color blind??
Everyone here knows our customer service. If you even thought that a box was re-sealed from us(the 89 Donruss), how about next time you come straight to me? I'll probably ship you 2 of them for free, along with a few Griffey cards. Thats how we want our customers taken care of and how little it matters to me what a Griffey rookie is worth.
I'm not sure if this comes across the wrong way, but it's easy to understand that like gambling, most of the time breaking unopened material doesn't work out financially well(sometimes terrible). If you enjoy ripping packs, then thats what it's all about.
I like how certain people's attitude towards the situation changes when Steve shows up.
Like I said before, I have only had one issue regarding packs from BBCE and Steve went above and beyond what would be expected as far as customer service is concerned. That particular resolution not only showed great customer service, but also a great amount of integrity.

If you're referring to me, I think you misunderstood what I was saying before. I think I actually said not once but twice that I didnt think BBCE ever searched the boxes, I just said it was possible that they were searched.
And as far as my "attitude towards the situation", I was just being appreciative that Steve would take the time to come on this board and address concerns: Im sure he has better things to do. But I get the impression that you're saying I'm kissing butt or something, which couldnt be further from the truth. Why would I care about being in good with Steve?
Steve is definitely a very reputable source for unopened product, but I have also had the pleasure of dealing with a number of other very experienced unopened collectors whose product has been just as impressive. After all, Steve buys much of his unopened inventory on the secondary market. Ebay is definitely a minefield these days with a seemingly neverending supply of badly reasealed raw vintage packs going up for sale every day of late (a bunch were just listed today), but there are other honest collectors and dealers (mostly collectors, though, LOL) out there, too.

Just wanted to share with everyone that I received the prize from Jasen (leathtech) for his contest. There were a bunch of cards in the package and I've scanned some of the highlights below. There was definitely a Chicago flavor as there were also a few Jordan cards mixed in with some '89 UD. Thanks Jasen!
I am pretty sure BBCE can tell if the fiber has been torn on the sealed cases. Hey maybe someone at the factory removed all the Griffeys and then sealed the case, sent it to a dealer in Iowa that later sold it to BBCE not knowing that all they would get is a Bonds.
The last time I purchased an 89 UD box from BBCE it had 1 of every RC in it. The one before that had maybe 2 star rcs in it total.

Seemed like you either hit the jackpot, or a box that was a complete dog...unfortunately, you got the latter.
Whoever bought the next box probably ended up with 3 Griffeys, etc.
===============
As for BBCE, I once bought a 1986 Topps FB Cello Box from them.....you know, Rice RC, Esiason RC, Kosar RC, Bruce Smith RC, etc etc
24 cello packs to a box....I opened the first six packs and got nothing. (Started to worry)
I opened the next six packs and got nothing. (REALLY started to worry...12 packs and nothing decent, and I mean nothing, except for one payton.)
I opened the next six and got (I think) a miscut Kosar. (REALLY starting to get get upset, and feeling like I had a tampered box.)
I opened the last six packs and ended up with 3 smiths, a couple of Rice's, and at least one of all the other rookies.
The points being:
(1) Collation on older products can be insanely wierd
(2) You CAN trust BBCE with expensive products
