Cool medal, have no idea but its signed Bargas. I think its a French medal commemorating
Columbus

I am not sure but I think the answer is yes?
With the research I have been able to find indicates that it is him.

I also think that it is for the Columbian Expo. But could be wrong.

At the size of that, it becomes more of a plaque, and no longer a medal. I have some large size medals that were adverted as plaques.

I like the incuse design, combined with the very high relief portrait on the piece. Very very nice.
