OCD revisited!! Let's look at ourselves and what we do....again

OK...A highly cathartic introspection on the OCD virus and coin collecting. I wrote this 5 years ago and it's still scary. image

-Clearly we are "SICK". We have no control when buying coins.

-Bipolar disorder may be contributing to this but that's OK.

-We will do anything to achieve this. Lie to wives. Use our kids savings. Borrow from IRA's.

-WIVES have no idea what we are up to and we are VERY reluctant if not downright crazy to let them even approach the 'loop'.

-Home Equity loans are great for really "big dates".

-Waiting for delivery is excruciating. Even "24 hour priority'" is a lifetime.

-Many of us have anxiety attacks when we simply SEE a FEDEX truck.

-Any delivery personnel is both the savior or enemy depending on the timing.

-We will stop everything we are doing in the face of a wrong delivery and drive miles in the dark to retrieve a coin before the depot closes.

-Emailing coins is our next hope for 21st century technology

-When a set is completed, submitting for upgrades is a sad substitute for BUYING, but necessary to "feed the beast".

-Employment/unemployment has no bearing on buying coins.

-What was our "limit" price a year ago is now just a trinket. And next year this year's limit we'll pay is going to look cheap. This OCD physics, nothing else.

-SELLING is a demonic idea along the same concept of trading our children for whiskey.

-We are geniuses for doing this instead of drugs, porno, hookers or riding subways muttering to ourselves; although any of those are wonderful "sidedishes" in conjunction with buying coins.

-Posting on this board IS another manifestation of OCD...we need to talk to other sick, sick people like us.

YES to all points but these 3:

-We will do anything to achieve this. Lie to wives. Use our kids savings. Borrow from IRA's.

-WIVES have no idea what we are up to and we are VERY reluctant if not downright crazy to let them even approach the 'loop'.

-Home Equity loans are great for really "big dates".

Don't agree with any of the above. At least not when it comes to my experience.

I recognize a lot more of myself in that post than I normally care to admit. But then I read this one:

<< <i>-Posting on this board IS another manifestation of OCD...we need to talk to other sick, sick people like us. >>

... and I felt compelled to reply with my confession. Go figure.

Hi, my name is Sean.... ::: Hi Sean! ::: ... and I'm... I'm.... a numismatist.

saintguru, This may be one of your BEST threads ever! imageimage
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
  • I am surprised the list is so short. It must have been written at a time that was perfect-your coin series was reasonably priced, the market was ok, the children were talking to you, the wife was accepting the biblical role without complaint, and a whole week passed without having to call somebody an idiot. I would like to see additions after the passage of 5 years since these insights were posted. Respectfully, John Curlis

    Jay,

You need to take up golf. Everything you say applies there as well.

Well, I can certainly see what you mean with the OP list of phrases, even if I haven't experienced them exactly word-for-word.

I recently went on a Binge of buying Bust Quarters. The high felt good, but the deception just brought me back to square one.

Well, it is OCD, so I guess I have an excuse image

Edited to add: BUT Damn those FedEx, UPS, and USPS shipments image
