What product have you ordered from the US Mint ...

... that turned out to be a real waste of money?

I'll start with the state quarter "coin and die" sets. I was sure the year 2000 was going to be a winner and I bought 2 sets of each quarter, from each mint!image

when the Mint lowered their State quarter FDC's to 35k per run...2006 .... big waste of $$$$, as of right now. Another recent "looser" was the: Little Rock Coin & Medal Set with a Mintage of 25K, along with the Jamestown unc $5 Gold & the list goes on. Recent winner....Bald Eagle Young Collectors Set..who would have guessed that one...

I ordered a Philly cheese steak, but by the time it arrived it was soggy and not very good. The coins I’ve ordered have tasted fine.

Early 70s proof sets and proof IKE dollars!

I've been happy with most of my recent purchases, though I don't think Jamestown and Little Rock are ever going to do anything.

None. The enjoyment of checking the coins and the scale of emotion that was part of the process was worth the money. Respectfully, John Curlis

I have been happy with all I purchased from the mint (with the exception one scratched, proof, ASE - which was promptly replaced by the mint)... I get proof annual sets, silver sets, uncirc sets, ASE's and AGE's. Cheers, RickO

With hard times upon us, I have stopped buying Mint

Product entirely. I have stored up some quality rare coins,

paid down all short term debt and now stand ready to

weather what may come , as best I can.

I am almost with you, at least following the same plan.

Now as far as the OP topic. I don't think anything I have bought from the mint was a waste of money. I try to buy what I like irregardless of how much they are worth in the future.

I'm cutting down on my Mint purchases too...I don't buy the stuff hoping it is going to go up in value so I can flip it but to add to my collection. But I think I can get most of the items in the after market for less $ than direct now so that is the route I am going to try for a while and see how things work out. Of course with the economy being soft the Mint will most likely cut back on production so everything I don't buy will end up costing me a huge premium over original price! That is how things go in my world! image

I usually order the same thing each year: Mint set, proof set and other items like the Westward Nickel Set. I've never had any problems with them and enjoy getting them.
