Propertyroom.com

Hello folks,

someone had questioned about how good and reliable propertyroom.com was. I checked it out. In their website they has a list of police depts from across the country they use for thier inventory. I call a few of the places they listed (LAPD, NYPD, Seattle PD). NOT 1 had ever heard of this company. And, they said that they take care of the evidence room stock in another way. Even had police depts that do not exist (Pinellas Cnty Police). I then wrote an email to PROPERTYROOM.COM about these facts. Their email response was: "Thank you very much for your interest in www.propertyroom.com. We are an online police auction site that has been in business now for a over 7 years. You can read about us and our executive members at http://about.propertyroom.com/ . I think you will find that it contains all the information needed for you to get a good feeling about doing business with us. If at any time you have any questions please feel free to write customer support at customersupport@propertyroom.com. Our excellent staff is here to help you." So, basically they said nothing.

As the saying goes, "if it 'looks' too good to be true, then it probably is a fake" and " there is a sucker born every minute". Although their website looks good, I do not plan on getting anything from them.

Good luck to all.

So has anyone ever had a sucessful transaction with them?
Or has anyone had problems with them?
  • Storm & garsmith,

    Thanks for your replies.

The quote I used in my post was from customersupport@propertyroom.com. But the PD's they say are "partners" when I spoke with them on the phone they knew nothing about this company. I am just reporting the facts as they happened to me.

    GOD Bless

All of these "seized/abandoned property auctions" -- whether legit or scams -- tend to have stupid-high bids on coins.

Not a bad grift. Police auctions. Now what bidder would think that the police would be robbing them?
Just cause the dustcover reads one title doesn't mean there is a different book underneath.

Who asked? And when? I certainly don't remember it, and assume it never happened.

Here is a link to ABC News, 3/11/08, regarding Propertyroom.com....

Makes for interesting reading ... but I'm not planning on bidding on any of their items.

    Uh Hello....................

From the Help page on Property.com

    "HOW TO SELL
PropertyRoom.com, a unique e-commerce marketplace, features goods seized and found by law enforcement agencies. Additionally, PropertyRoom.com offers items from Trusted Merchants in a variety of hot e-commerce categories including electronics, collectibles, jewelry, sports equipment and much more.

As a PropertyRoom.com law enforcement agency partner or trusted merchant you gain access to our loyal base of over 600,000 registered bidders, as well as to our proven expertise in the law enforcement and e-commerce industries."

I think this means that anybody can sell their "property' on the site once you become a "Trusted Merchant".
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

You've got to be kidding. image

    Yea right!

    Not in a million years.

Notice that at the bottom of each auction is listed a "Merchant Profile" for the coin dealer and/or shop selling each coin in question. This site appears to be a simple front for various coin dealers. Any affiliation with the police seems suspect.
