I agree.
People post about his toned coins all the time but never actually ask him about them.
<< <i>My question is basically , how did this get into a PCGS holder? >>
Someone took the coin in a gloved hand and placed it in the plastic then sonically sealed it....
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Maybe the seller will see this thread and tell us what he knows about the coin.

Good guess, Robb!!!!

All I see are 2 nasty fingerprints, couple of milk spots and some very bright toning rarely seen on 100yr old coins
So I turn to the experts at PCGS to decide for me...
PCGS opinion on toning
the same way this one did. at least PCI got it right, before it was cracked out and re-submitted to PCGS (with a one point bump even!)
The collector had originally been going for a date set, all PCGS slabbed and all toned. Some are prettier than others.

But, when people say that no coin toned like that “naturally”… do you really mean “accidently”?
If say a few BU walkers were stored in an old sulfur based paper roll 20 years ago and most came out black, brown but a few came out with wild rainbow colors… is that naturally toned because it was an accident?
If I placed a batch of my own BU walkers in that same holder today and by next year I had some rainbows… is that now Artificially Toned because I wanted them to tone?
<< <i>That one and about a dozen others, all PCGS graded, were consigned to me this week.

Ya see? I knew there was something interesting about this one. This couldn't be a coin braddick owns as he like red ones.
<< <i>As far as the auctions and the PCGS holders go, it’s most like from a collector who cherry picked rainbow toned coins.

But...this isn't a Walker

<< <i>But...this isn't a Walker. And if it was, it would never be considered NT or holdered by a top TPG with the same toning as this coin. >>
Ummmm... well, yeah... you do have a point there!
Why anyone would pay a premium for such coins is a mystery to me, but it bothers me not in the slightest. And if PCGS or anyone else wants to certify such coins, more power to them. It won't change my personal position one iota.
They can be outrageously pretty; They just aren't my cup of meat.
