Amazon is much better than Ebay

Decided to give amazon a try. Yes - they do charge 15% but in the long run it's considerably more profitable than Ebay. If you factor in listing fees on Ebay, FVF and Paypal fees and factor in items that do not sell Amazon is much more profitable. On top of that with Amazon, list your item once and forget about it until it is sold. No relisting, no listing fees and the kicker is that I have been getting higher sale prices through them.

I know there are a lot of coolaid drinkers out there who may chime in in favor of Ebay, but there is a reason why Ebay is looking to Amazon and trying to move in that direction.

  • I respect your opinion but, if I have a $100 item with reserve of $99, that's 10 cents to list and $2.00 for the reserve.

Then factor in Ebay's finial bid amount along with the 2.9% Pay Pal fee… that works out to 15%... around 13% if I run a non-reserve auction.

I didn't know Amazon still had coin auctions, could you give me a link?

My combined eBay and PayPal fees are half that. I'll pass.

  • Add a BIN to the item and your are toast. I knew Russ would be plugging away for Ebay. Did I mention I get more on Amazon.

    "Amazon has coins?"

(this reply pretty much sums up why Ebay is better)

Yep, the OP sort of skipped past that little problem.

I doubt the traffic through Amazon coins is anywhere close to eBay's. To each their own............
My humble '63 mint registry set, not much, but it's mine!
  • Lower volume is offset by higher sales prices and higher margins.

And Russ: Ebay called and asked that you report back to your cubicle in the marketing department. Happy 4th of July!

Sure. Tell us, how many coins you've sold on Amazon. Don't be shy. This is your chance to brag. image

  • I'd love a viable alternative to EbAy. but i dont think its amazon.

However, if Ebay continues down the path its on, continues to alienate smaller and now mid size sellers and caters exclusively to the buyer (feedback abortion) it is very likely that a major competitor rises up to the challenge.

Vic, I just looked through Amazon, what have you sold so far? Coin jewelry? A Canadian Silver Maple Leaf? An Orlando Magic gold coin? I see nothing I'd even remotely consider bidding on.

As stated before ... selling or buying coins on Amazon is a loosing endeavour.

We don't need no stinkin' alternatives to Ebay. The phone company in the '70s, the Post Office before FedEx and UPS - those were the good old days! image

I just checked out the coins on Amazon. Nothing there that I would put on my watch list. I certainly would not leave ebay to get less buyer exposure, for higher seller fees.
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
Not to mention the $40 a month it costs to sell on Amazon - in addition to the 15%. And, if anybody thinks eBay has onerous seller rules, just take a look at Amazon's iron fisted control.

now that I re read the thread, VicThrust,

A better choice of wording for a successful thread would be:
