You Suck! Awarded 6/2008- 1901-O Micro O Morgan, 8/2008- 1878 VAM-123 Morgan, 9/2022 1888-O VAM-1B3 H8 Morgan | Senior Regional Representative- ANACS Coin Grading. Posted opinions on coins are my own, and are not an official ANACS opinion.
Of course! Now I do love the ultrararities and the VAMs that are downright indismissable even at arm's length. However, what I really love about them is the study of the usage of the distinct hubs and dies over the production of the series. And I like this for many series, though Morgans are special and are a place where I have at least some company on a regulsr basis. It's 10% cherrypicking and 90% studying and analyzing the coins for me.
I guess i've tried to see what is up with these. I find the reconstruction of the die histories fascinating.
But...
The only slabbed VAM coins i've seen in hand have been an agonizing Where's Waldo game where I lose, followed by my eyes exploding due to fatigue. Some of the differences are subtle. It increases my respect for the followers and discoverers of this stuff. I don't think i'm into it enough to pay big bucks for a nice one. I don't think i'm educated enough to cherry pick one.
I think I have to remain happy with my Morgans as they are. I've gotten into half eagles. That is quite 'dangerous'. Deep-end morgan VAM collecting seems even more dangerous. Well, perhaps not. They seem both to have regions of extreme rarity and focus.

Not in a million years.
But to each his own.
Yep
How else could I afford all my "other" coins......shhhhhh, don't tell the Morgan in the safe.

Yes, if you're speaking about the rarest VAMs or the Top 100 VAMs
No, if you mean collecting every single DIE variation in existence.
That is of course IMHO!
<< <i>Yes, though I have slowed down considerably in the last year. >>
I completely agree! But my reason my be different from yours.
It is getting increasingly more difficult to find great VAM's in Good condition.

It's a big distraction and on par with conditional rarities.
