J Q Adams bulk shipment have arrived

Today the mailman delivered 250 John Quincy Adams dollars. These arrived much earlier than expected. I was hoping for D mint but got P.

They came from the Fulfilment Center, Memphis TN. THey were sent by DHL to the local post office and then delivered by the local postman.
No signature was required, but there is USPS delivery confirmation bar code on the package. There were two plastic trays with 5 rolls each in them. They look just like the ones from the bank. These were in a cardboard box inside another cardboard box. This latter box was evidently designed to hold the 500 coin shipments.

I don't know what would happen if nobody was home. In 1964 our coin club officer came home and found 100 proof sets in his driveway.

  • My main question to you is....Are these circulated coins or B/U coins for circulation???

Will they go into the slot machine. I think I will buy a thousand and pay a extra $100 bag fee on United Airlines to ship them while I fly to Vegas Next month.image

Have you busted all the rolls open yet? If not how can you tell they are all P mint? I thought maybe they would be mixed rolls. If not I'm

Hear about JRocco's discovery with the cent ?
Searching rolls is fun. Examining them for anomalies is a game. Promoting new dollars is easy. Buying coffee is essential.

    Got PICS ?

I don't think they work in slot machines. I have used them to give as tip's when I get my drinks though.

I would say BU. They look identical to the two rolls I got at my bank previously.

I have only looked closely at 1 coin in 1 roll so far. There could be D's there for all I know, especially maybe in the second tray of 5 rolls.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I haven't seen a machine here in Vegas that takes coin in years. Maybe downtown?

Thanks for the info, keep us informed if they are mixed P mint and D mint if you could.

  • I finally opened a roll from the second tray, and it too was a P mint.
The June 30 Coin World has an article on them with information from the mint.
It states that all coins within one roll will be from the same mint, but the overall package can be one mint only or mixed.
It also states each roll carries the mint mark in black ink. It certainly was NOT there on mine.

I bit the bullet and ordered $500 worth just to see what I'd get. If I run across anything unusual, I'll definitely get back to the forums.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
