    God bless our troops, even though I don't agree with the current 10 year campaign.

    It won't ever end. Future generation are taught to hate Western ideology. 1 trillion dollars, and counting.

    I bought a collection from an 87 year-old WWII vet yesterday. He was a flight engineer/turret gunner on a B-17. He flew 29 missions over Nazi Germany. Of his squadron of over 200 men, he was one of 20, or so, who made it back home. I thanked him for "saving the world."

    My Grandfather (now deceased) was a bombardier flying B-26's in WWII in the Army Air Corps. One of the coolest things was a Veterans Day program at my daughter's school where her band played a medley of all of the various service songs, and asked Veterans of each service to stand when their branch song played. The kids the gave boutiniers (sp?) to all of the service veterans. I have rarely seen my Grandfather so moved as when my Daughter gave him his. image

    Overheard at a recent Billionaires convention:

    Thank God for the working class poor that are willing to risk the only one thing they have that is priceless - their lives. And why are they willing to do this? I can't figure it out - but I sure am glad they do it. Without their sacrifice, I'd never be the man I am today. I profit by war and also by everything the poor working class does in their everyday lives.

    Let's hope these people never figure out our secrets, Brothers. Else we may lose the freedom to rule over the world as we do. Yes, Brothers freedom isn't free. I'm just glad we don't have to pay for it with our own blood. The poor are so willing to give up their own blood for far less than most of us earn in 2 seconds off our interest payments.

    Amazing. Amazing. How do we have it so good. image

    ArizonaJack ... this is my son's first year in the USN as well. Thankfully, some of us are still willing to serve.

    I posted this yesterday ...

    to all that served before me ...

    to all that served with me ...

    to all that served since me ...

    and to all that serve today ... (including my son and ArizonaJack's daughter)

    I remember ... and I thank you!

    Linde, here is a link to the civilian casualties that day. Surprisingly, only 5 of the 17 crewmembers on board perished.

    Here is a list of the Air Force casualties, you may have to hunt a bit to find them all.

    My Grandpa G. was a machine gunner back in the "Great War" Here are his medals that he had the honor to show for his courage. He was wounded in the Black Forest at the battle of Argonne, hit in 12 different places with shrapnel, one piece breaking his left leg. He lived to tell his story and was one proud American.

  • I watched the flag pass by one day,
    It fluttered in the breeze;
    A young Marine saluted it,
    And then he stood at ease.

    I looked at him in uniform,
    So young, so tall, so proud;
    With hair cut square and eyes alert,
    He’d stand out in any crowd.

    I thought… how many men like him
    Had fallen through the years?
    How many died on foreign soil?
    How many mothers’ tears?

    How many pilots’ planes shot down
    How many died at sea
    How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves
    No, Freedom is not Free.

    I heard the sound of Taps one night,
    When everything was still;
    I listened to the bugler play,
    And felt a sudden chill;

    I wondered just how many times
    That Taps had meant “Amen”
    When a flag had draped a coffin
    Of a brother or a friend;

    I thought of all the children,
    Of the mothers and the wives,
    Of fathers, sons and husbands.
    With interrupted lives.

    I thought about a graveyard
    At the bottom of the sea,
    Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
    No. Freedom is not Free!

    My uncle served in korea, lost a lot of friends

    To those who are serving or have served ,a big thank you for your service

    And to those who died defending freedom or are missing in action, you will never be forgotten
  • Agree, we should salute all of those served and never came home as well as those who served in any capacity. Sacrifices by long forgotten individuals large and small have made this nation free.

    What Is A Veteran?

    A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve-- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.'
