Mint still sending 2008 SAE Reverse Errors - Yippie

I followed a number of threads lately on people questioning if people are really getting the Silver Eagles with 2007 reverse error/variety. I placed my first order of 5 on 6 May and received them today.

5 of 5 had the 2007 reverse. For a newcomer to the hobby this really made my day. I have 3 more orders of 5 each coming over the next week. Could I be that lucky ?

  • this brings me back to when I found a boat load of washington dollar errors, and there was tons of money on the bay.

I spoke to a local dealer today on the phone about these "errors". He said he is a buyer at $275 per coin in the raw, but also told me of how one of his dealer buddies has accumulated over 300 pieces already. Couple this with the fact that you just made a 5 for 5, and you have a surefire recipe for a HUGE fall in prices on these once the dust settles. I would speculate to say that within 2 years, these will bring no more than a 2x premium over the regular issued coins. Just wait until the saturation happens and all the collectors who want this error have this error. Dont get caught holding the bag on these seemingly overhyped, considerably common coins!

I disagree... a scant mintage of only 47,000 could make this one a winner even in the long run, especially when many of them fall ill to milkspots.
  • Good arguments for the 47,000 minted number, but you never know. I just wanted to show some of the nay sayers that they are in fact still coming out of the system. The rest of mine could be 2008 backsides and I would still be happy. These 5 just got me in good with the wife. Bathroom renovation now paid for.

How you gonna renovate a bathroom on $1500 bucks?

Make that $1200 if you keep one.

    Edited to Add:

    Sweet Score! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
  • Its a SMALL bathroom ! LOL....$1500 gets me going, more like 6000 in the end

Congratulations.... As stated above, probably need to act quickly. I am not an authority on selling or flipping, however, watching the market as long as I have been, these varieties tend to cool rather quickly. Cheers, RickO

What government stimulus checks? Mine was a stinking $4. It stimulated me to buy a gallon of gas which actually had over $0.50 cents in taxes tacked on it. image
