ICG turn over?

So anyone noticed that the crew over at ICG has turned over a bit? Anyone know why?

I noticed JP wasn't on the roster any more....

Also, they seem to offer problem coin grading now..

Yeah, I know this is PCGS forum.... but I like to be able to drive to the place where my coins are graded.

    This thread explains it better

    Lowdown short version:

    Nov 2007

James Taylor leaves ICG as CEO

    Dec 2007

James Taylor goes and buys ANACS..... fires everyone the day after Christmas Break except two employees
Taylor hires entire ICG staff except myself and the comptroller

    Jan 2008

    Taylor moves ANACS to Denver
ICG Hires all the fired ANACS graders

    March 2008

I leave ICG and start dealing

Cam, if Taylor had hired you as well to go to ANACS, would you have stayed with them?

Or were you already thinking of going out on your own beforehand?

I'm sure you'll do well, but curious minds wonder about such odd configurations/shenanigans.

    Thanks

I used to submit certain coins to ANACS, but no more and likely not ever again.

I was offered a job at ANACS (with a pay cut) and there was no health benefits for the first 2 months.....my wife had our first child in January so I decided to stay at ICG.

hmm... so could it be said that if ICG used to give out high grades - as some would say - not me.

Can it now be said that with the old ANACS people working at ICG, the grading might be a bit more conservative?

No insults intended.... just curious. I'd like to keep working with ICG. I really like the fact I could just walk in with a bag full of coins... chat.. look them over and decide what to grade/slab.

I have a big problem with putting coins in the mail. - I know I know... insure it... etc... a lost coin is a lost coin.

Thanks, I knew about the baby, congrats on that.

With a pay cut, no health insurance............... just confirms my feelings regarding Taylor.

I'm certain nothing from me will go to ANACS ever again.

Good luck, not that you'll need it.

I want to set the record straight....ANACS employees do have insurance now. It just took longer than expected for them to get everything up and running.

I have no bad feelings against ANACS or ICG and will be dropping off a submission of coins to ANACS this coming week.

I guess this means you believe ANACS to be fully operational and standards are pretty clear and competitive right now?

They are competitive right now. They have some of the top experts in the industry and know their stuff. ANACS's turnaround times are slow right now and that will be a factor in deciding what to submit.

Thanks for the insight. I like the latest holder they came out with.

Cameron is such a great guy, I wish him well with his own business.

As far as Anacs and ICG, probably be the last place I send submissions too at this point, too much goin on with them currently.

It should be mentioned that for Cameron to deal in coins he could not work at ICG. One of the things that made ICG special, besides always scoring high on the Greysheet bid analysis, was the prohibition of employees dealing in coins. Collectors like the idea that when we submit our few coins for grading we will get the same consistency as when a large dealer submits thousands of coins at one time. "No special deals"
