new to the forums, russ your reply is needed
Hi my name is David. Just in case you havent noticed by now im new to this site. Ive been collecting coins for about 9 years now, but just passively. Just some toned stuff I've found in pocket change and stuff I thought was errors(Ive recently took them to a expert at FUN and had them proven otherwise). I just have a few questions: I'm thinking about collecting Kennedy Halfs and was wondering what are some common varietys i should be on the look out for? Also,I am wondering where do people find major errors? Obviously they dont find die caps and matched pairs in their every change at the corner store. Also I want to know what colors do Kennedys tone so I dont get duped and look like a fool when I buy a bright lime green Kennedy at the next show Im going to. Thats really all I can think of right now. Thanks, David
Coins please me, they please me so...

also, check HA.com for their current auctions.
I'd recommend The Kennedy Half Dollar Book by James Wiles.
You will find a couple of Kennedy enthusiasts here to answer your questions, I'm sure.
Russ, where are you?
Hi David - glad to have you aBOARD!

I've been collecting Kennedy proofs for about two years now. To me they're as beautiful as they are interesting.
One of mine has a light brownish cast to it and I'm thinking that might be from a 'bad dip' but I'm still learning too.

The numbers they have listed are the numbers from the guide.
There's a lot to choose from in Kennedys, but I'd suggest you ignore the early date proof and SMS coins. Nothing worthwhile there.

Watch for '80-D issues without a shallow scrape on one side or both.
Keep your eyes open for the PL's. They are nearly "common" for some dates like the '70-D.

What do you mean by sheilds and what does PL mean?
