OK, I've seen some Buffalos with excellent buffalo shoulder detail get a 65 or 66 and seen some with less shoulder detail draw a 67. Is this detail even considered for the grade or is this the difference between early strikes with new dies and later strikes with well used dies? For me, rough, detailed shoulder fur and the higher relief on the hip of the buffalo really make the coin for me.
i,m no buff expert and dont play one on tv but i know some dates/mm are notorious for weak strikes and are graded on a curve more or less. grades and values are all over the map with this series
one pup or pickup point on the reverse is the tail tip of the bison so they look at that for grade assesment
I guess I am tougher EF45 look at the wear on the rim between one and 4, the light on the picture made the REV to hard to tell. You guys are going to love me as a grader when I go to work at the new PCI owned by DLRC in Virginia Beach, VA none of this overgrading stuff "TONGUE IN CHEEK" seriously, I think the OBV of the coin is an EF-45.
THIS IS WHY I LOVE BUFFALOES , NONE OF YOU KNOW HOW TO GRADE THEM . THIS COIN DOES HAVE A WEAK STRIKE BUT BELEIVE ME IT IS AN EASY MS63 COIN BY THIS IMAGE!
I agree with "the cape" on this one. The soft detail appears to be from striking issues and not from wear. The luster appears "flat" and there are some surface hits. I'm going with 63.
Although hard to tell from the image, one can see that luster on the coin "cartwheels", so I don't understand the AU58 comments either. I would guess 63 as well.

The photo's might turn out better if you remove it from the capsule. The luster will show much better.

Chris, I like that coin. Make a good piece in a dansco. Is that yours? What does it grade?

Most P mint Buffalo's are well struck, you just have to be patient and know what to look for.

Yes. It's an undergraded 64.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I prefer keeping it as the undergraded coin it is. It has more WOW appeal.
