"Here look at it" Refering to the greysheet he's holding out into my face. I'd rather look at the coin than paper and I already know what I want to pay for it, i don't need his stinkin sheets!
Or...
"If you go a grade or two down it's a lot cheaper" Referring to an NGC AU-50 1842 seated dollar. Along with other comments directed towards me, this guy pissed me off assuming that because i'm a YN I have no clue what I'm doing and that i'm flat broke. So I looked over at my dad and asked if it'd look nice to our AU-58 1852 and the various other seated dollars we have in low MS...well the dealer got the hint and slowly tucked his cleaned XF (NGC missed the boat on that one...) back into the case!
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

How many dealers say: "I paid $XXX so I need to get $XYZ for it." How many here believe this line of BS?

OK, I have no favorite dealers, I love them all the same. My actual favorite "expression" is when I ask for a price at a show, they grunt and groan, will not put hamburger down. They look at me, stare into my eyes, look me up and down (sizing me up) then the story comes, and I tell them my Sig line and usually end up walking.
Please... Save The Stories, Just Answer My Questions, And Tell Me How Much!!!!!
I may be taking a slightly different tack on this question, but one of my favorite comments made by a dealer came at a Baystate Coin Show in Boston several years ago. Respected coin dealer and board member Julian Leidman was, at that time, running a national advertising campaign in the weeklies touting himself as "the largest coin dealer in the business', an obvious and humorous reference to his large stature, in addition to his business status. Well known wholesale coin dealer Coleman Foster, an imposing figure of a man himself, was heard from across the bourse floor, while holding up a copy of Julian's advertisement, stating "Hey Liedman. I take exception to this ad!". At nearly seven foot, who could argue with the man.
They that can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither Liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin
At fun I was at Gold Rush Gallery's table talking to David Patten, he pointed me to the dealer next to him and told me "This is a dealer you NEED to know", then he told the dealer "You will take good care of my friend!" and he did!
As far as collector/dealers go, David is one of the best!!! and I'm honered that he considers the chicken and myself his friends!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Here's something I said to another "dealer" that I'm still proud of. It happened at a local show when this "dealer" asked to see a proof Liberty Nickel. He agreed that it was a nice coin, but then he whipped out his Bluesheet and I said...
"If you want a chance at buying that coin at Bluesheet you're better of taking that Bluesheet and shoving it up your a..".
He walked off after that, good thing too.

and
"My check is better than most people's cash."
The second one, I heard being said during a transaction between Andy Skrabalak of Angel Dee's and Ben Karr of Becoka. I know both these guys well and the honest truth is: Checks from both these guys are probably better than most people's cash!!
Said by the World's Best Dealer™ to another dealer with a checkered past: "No, I won't take a check. In fact, I won't give you the coin for cash, because I'd have to wait for your cash to clear."
Andy Skrabalak, of Angel Dees, while shaking his head after picking up a lot in a Goldberg Sale a few years ago only to find out that the raw Unc. Lincoln Cent roll contained only 46 of the 50 coins originally in the lot--" Dealers, can't trust em."

I remember asking dealers when I first started collecting "Has this coin been cleaned?" and a lot of them would say "I didn't clean it" wich didn't anwser my question.
