image Have you already shipped it?
  • I'm afraid that you're unlikely to see that money again - given pay"pal's" well-known tendency to side with the buyer. However, that said, did you ship to a confirmed paypal address? Use delivery confirmation? Insurance? If you can answer YES to all 3 (unlikely), then you have a small chance! If you send paypal proof that the right person received it at the right address you might get lucky. Barring that, if you had the package insured, maybe you can file a claim & get your money back that way. Otherwise, count your blessings that you're only out $105 - when it happened to me, I lost $1600! You might also want to take a look at www.paypalsucks.com - I doubt it'll help, but at least you'll have a better sense of who/what you are dealing with!

    Commiserations.

  • This is one of those situations that I really cannot understand paypals decisions/actions. The seller has done nothing wrong other that use paypal to accept payment-yet the seller is out the money and the coin. Where is paypals sense of business ethics? I suspect it is somewhere the sun doesn't shine.

Don't jump to conclusions. Have you logged into paypal? Sounds like it might be a scam. But if unauthorized transactions means that it was a hijacked account and you shipped to an unconfirmed address then you've lost. Never ship to an unconfirmed address unless you've totally comfortable that it isn't a hijacked account. --Jerry

It would help if you would give us some more information. Did you mail your item to a confirmed address. Did the buyer file a dispute with PayPal & for what reason. Did you respond to the dispute & supply paypal with the information requested. What type of "unauthorized" transaction was it ... ie counterfeit, cigarettes, or any item not allowed on eBay .... Be a little bid more specific in your post.

  • I have had this happen to be, but the transaction was covered under the Seller Protection Policy.
If the transaction was marked as SPP eligible on the paypal transaction, and you have a
    (1) qualified Verified Business or Premier Account
    (2) Ship to the confirmed address on the Transaction Details page
    (3) Retain reasonable proof of postage that can be tracked online
    (4) Require signature receipt on transactions equal to or more in value than $250.00 USD
    you will be covered.
If so email paypal and they will reverse the transaction.

  • I logged into paypal and the claim is real. I shipped it to a confirmed address and i have the usps receipt that shows the shipping information. I did not use delivery confirmation. What should my next step be?

The item I sold was a video game system for a friend of mine. Here is that it says on the paypal website under the claim number

    Reason for Dispute:
    Unauthorized
    Chargeback Amount:
    $105.00 USD
    Chargeback Date:
    Feb. 16, 2008
    Status:
    Waiting For Seller's Response
    Status Details:
A chargeback has been filed against this transaction. The buyer indicated to their card issuer that they did not authorize the payment.

Ultimately, it is the card issuer’s decision whether the buyer’s chargeback is valid. If you believe that this chargeback is unwarranted, PayPal’s team of chargeback specialists would like to help you put together a case to submit to the card issuer. This expert assistance is one of the unique benefits of using PayPal.

To begin responding to this chargeback, click the "Resolve" button below.

We will also review the information you submit to determine if this chargeback is eligible for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy.

While this case is being investigated, we have placed a temporary hold on the disputed funds.

Response deadline: Please respond within 10 calendar days of the filing date of this chargeback.

    Please help!
  • LOL, it seems like it happens to everyone sooner or later where paypal does something that you would logically think no reputable company would do. I've had my fair share of paypal schemes as have my relatives and some other coin guys I know. I will never take a paypal payment for anything over $500 just because I'm not going to ship someone a coin who knows the system and then decides to make up some bogus complaint like the coin was not as described and they end up getting half their money back. No way!! For people that are selling $4000 or $5000 coins on ebay and accepting paypal all I have to say is sleep tight. I know someone who only accepts checks, money orders, and cashier's checks and he told me that his sales are just as well as they were when he accepted paypal and although he might get a few dollars less he saves on paypal fees and doesn't have to worry about being grabbed by the b..... by somebody. He sells on his reputation and not whether he accepts paypal or not. good luck with that dispute and like one poster said make sure it is not a nigerian scam message which is another reason why I would prefer that paypal wasn't so hyped and pushed on its users by ebay because I get an email about every two weeks from someone wanting me to log into my account (of course a bogus site they created) so that they can get my password and username. I never fall for this, but who knows one day it might be so clever that I do fall for it.
  • I have had this happen before. The husband used the wife's cc. When she found out she called the cc company and said she did not authorize the purchase. They reverse the charges and it's all over. Good luck.

You did not use delivery confirmation as Paypal requires for seller "protection".....Maybe they can still help. Give them what you have and at least try to get your item back.
  • Just submitted my response, i included the usps receipt and a link to the ebay auction page which states that due to the fact that the system had some problems it was being sold as is. I have over 2275 positive feedback, with a 99.9% positive rating. I also have over 700 positive paypal transactions. Do they look at this stuff when reviewing the claim?
  • If you didn't use Delivery Confirmation you don't have any recourse. The PayPal seller protection is designed to protect sellers involved in fraudulent transactions, however you have to use the safe selling guidelines PayPal requires in order for the coverage to be in effect. Had you done what PayPal requires, they likely would have reimbursed the funds back to you under their seller protection policy.

  • How long has the buyer been a registered user and what's their fb rating?

  • << <i>How long has the buyer been a registered user and what's their fb rating? >>

They have been registered since 7-20-2004 and they have 17 positive transactions
  • Well, sounds like they're either dishonest & trying to screw you, or somebody got a hold of their credit card & went on a buying spree.
Have you checked to see what types of things they've bought in the past on eBay? Was there a flurry of buying on their part around the time they bought from you?

Sometimes kids get a hold of their parents accounts, etc... But I can tell you from my past experience with paypal - it's a nightmare trying to get a chargeback reversed. They suck!

Good luck - hope it works out for you.

Sounds like they didn't like the game and called their credit card company and said they weren't going to pay for it. this doesn't make paypal happy with them. All is not lost but expect a long battle. --jerry

    did they leave feedback?

    use the auction link and

    contact the buyer

ask them how the game is working

    don't mention chargeback
just try to get them to acknowlege they received it

    No. They don't.

Why on God's green earth would you ever ship a PayPal paid item without delivery/signature confirmation?

That's an auto-lose if any chargeback is filed against you.
  • I got lazy and didn't get any confirmation. Maybe this will be a tough lesson for me to learn. It just really upsets me that paypal has all these "seller protection" type sevices and programs yet from what I heard, paypal always seems to side with the buyer, no matter what. It just really upsets me. I count on ebay to bring in about $5,000 in extra income every year and now with all the changes to ebay and with paypal getting worse and worse every day it seems, it may be time to find another avenue.

Try and get the person to admit they got the item.

    Do not mention the chargeback.

    Good for you.

Or become familiarized of what is required for PayPal protection.

  • Most of the stuff i sell on ebay are lower priced items ($5-$20) and I have never had a problem. People would not buy my items if i had to charge for delivery confirmation and such on such low priced items. Moving forward I may have to use delivery confirmation on anything over $x dollars.
  • If you use your paypal account to ship it is $0.18 for first class and I think it is still free with Priority Mail.

Guys, I think the delivery confirmation may not be the key here. If the buyer has admitted he got it then delivery confirmation is not the issue. The problem is a credit card chargeback. --Jerry

Have you tried calling the buyer???

A lot of people hide behind the computer, but if you call them to ask what the problem was, maybe they'll open up a little.

    Good luck
