What Happened to the Ebay Boycott?

Judging the number of listings in the US Coins category, jumping 25-30,000 today, I don't see that there are many who will be joining in on the boycott.

    2 things...

1 is that ebay put out the 20c listing day, right?
2 .... aren't the "new fees for saving" scheduled for 2/20? If so, wouldn't the boycott happen then?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The boycott is supposed to begin on Friday the 15th and end on the 22nd. You shouldn't see a drop until Friday or Saturday.

    Its been a huge success

I wont even look at the offerings on flea bay. They suck and I am not contributing to their sales one damn bit. STRIKE! STRIKE! STRIKE!

I'm in on the boycott, (even though its 'ripe for the plucking)....gonna be like chopping a finger off not to go there, being laid up, and all, but I even sent my Baldies back to the mint instead of seeing how I could do on the bay for a week, even at 20 cent listing. It would take a complete ebay membership boycott...COMPLETE membership boycott, for a boycott to be effective. And it is something ebay NEEDS for taht wake up call....they need to be knocked down a peg, but not much chance.....I would doubt they feel any pinch at all from this boycott.....but we need to start somewhere. Its kinda like 'the wave' at a ballgame...you see a bunch of people start it, and it dies before it gets more than a few sections, but after a few die hards keep trying to get it going, before you know it, it does make its way around, doesnt it.....

This is all good in a moral way and I too am not happy with the upcoming changes but they are a business and they are there to make money, not to provide a public service. eBay isn't the only venue but it is one of the best. I actually try to buy everything I can off eBay. I save tons on everything from Dust Off compressed air, to clean my keyboard to soaps, guitar strings, you name it. If it wasn't for eBay I wouldn't have been able to buy the coins I collect. I think eBay will end up changing this new policy after a while but I don't think a boycott will have any effect but I applaud your actions of standing up for what you believe is right.

I haven't bought or sold anything on Ebay in about a year, I guess I'm a part of the boycott even if I had not intended to be. image

Same thing as when people try and boycott certain gas companies for a certain period of time: not enough do it to make a difference.

I agree. Many boycotts have to last months to over a year to be effective. One week is like hitting a speed bump.

The boycott will do absolutely nothing to ebay... it may make some feel good, but impact will be negligible. Cheers, RickO

EBay seller boycott set to start Monday

    >>>
Whether or not the planned boycott will be successful in affecting eBay's bottom line remains to be seen, but auction veterans say this degree of seller backlash to eBay fee hikes and other changes is unprecedented.

"I've been getting about 400 e-mails an hour," said Valerie Lennert, an Anaheim, Calif., doll-clothing merchant who became an unofficial spokeswoman for the boycott after posting a call-to-arms video on Google (GOOG, Fortune 500)'s YouTube.

Past eBay boycott attempts have fizzled, and this one may too, Lennert acknowledged. With millions of individuals selling on eBay, gaining critical mass for any organized action is extremely challenging. But simply getting eBay's attention is a worthy accomplishment, she said.

"There are a lot of people who are really upset, and if we choose to go somewhere else as a group, there won't be an eBay anymore," she said. "We don't think eBay understands that. They think they're invincible, and they don't seem to listen to what we need. Even if listings don't go down, we're reached the main goal: to let them know how upset we are. I'm pretty sure they know that at this point."

Im mad about it all. Mainly the feedback thing. I have very few feedbacks but have all great ones. I have done my damnedest to sell quality and be honest. I am not anyones door mat nor is ebay the only one in the game. I am not dealing with a hole buyers negging just for chits and giggles. Its BS and I dont think anyone should stand for it. If anyone wants to roll over and take it up the.... fine, but I wont.

Any financial impact on Ebay is really beside the point IMO. Giving some bad PR to Ebay and letting them know that a lot of people
are upset with them should be the goal. What happens in the long run is really more important than a one week boycott, the anger
people feel is not just going to go away after a one week period.

I don't intend to list anything during the next week. My MadMarty auction has a couple of more days to run and after it concludes I'll be back to having nothing on eBay for awhile.

ahooka, I will become a charter member of your site...but will ya guarantee no fee increases??? lol....seriously, sign ME up, dude! I think we should all spend our time going and joining the many other sites we have handy through other members.....even if it doesnt make a big dent in the bay, at least we have the comfort of knowing the dealings off the bay will more than likely remove the 'buffoon seller' factor...not 100%, but it STILL should make for more straight up transactions.

Won't you at least use them to advertise your site? As I read their rules (been awhile), the restriction on promoting another site pertained to ebay stores not auctions. If that loophole has not been closed, it is only a matter of time.

I am talking with my guy right now. I dont want an auction site, just somewhere you can buy coins.

A general statement for those that wont do anything:

I know ebay wont give 2 chits about the boycott, but when we the people are having to deal with this, and some say hahaha this wont change anything, Your right, Its because people like you wont do a damn thing to change it!

All these people saying it means nothing and its a joke are the jokes. You spend your money and time and wont stand up for what you believe in.

    Have some backbone!

I think they are just pragmatic. I do not see them opposed to the boycott, its just a matter of choice and opinion.

Ebay has done much to tick me off over the years, but the site has done much for me as well. Too bad Yahoo auctions did not hold on a bit longer....

I realize that this boycott, will not really effect ebay.

They will still generate 100's of millions in fee's, guess it's just a message.

We need a serious competitor, hopefully sometime soon.

I don't see how ebay will suffer if people just save their ebay listings until after February 25th. The same number of items will still eventually be listed. Until there is a serious alternative to ebay, they can pretty much do whatever that want. It is too bad too.

Yahoo Auctions were very successful for sellers but not for Yahoo as their business model is built on selling advertising. Auction site management is labor intensive and the advertising revenue just didn't cut it for them.

I did very well on Yahoo and I do miss it.
