<< <i>JMHO: if there is a only pic and a price like, "$100 delivered," then yes, it's bad form to criticize the coin. However, if the seller has a pic and then goes on to hype the coin left and right when he's clearly lying/wrong, then a little slamming is okay. If the seller says, "GEM BU!!" and it's obviously a dipped XF/AU, then I see no problem in saying something. >>

<< <i>nothing will ever change in this hobby.
sellers want to sell coins at a profit and will use the
description to describe it in glowing terms.

auctions houses, ebay sellers, BST sellers, and etc.. all do this.

very few sellers will give a truly unbiased opinion of what they are
    selling.

sorta like a used car salesman... they will never outright say it is a dog,
    do not buy it!

but that is about it for me in this thread. not much else to say. opinions have been formed

    seaeaglecoins,

thanks for clarifying. i read too much into your post and now i understand what you mean.

Geckos are small to average sized lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae which are found in warm climates throughout the world. Geckos are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions

funny I was just reading this before the post...

BST is a great place and they seem to do a fine job keeping their house in order... without being lewd, crude or confrontational... no big look at me " I know it all " a simple PM from one or 2 members is enough to get a listing edited or removed ....

What I accomplished was illustrating the fact that you were full of crap when you stated that you seldom post comments on the BST. You've posted more comments on the BST since you fell off the turnip truck a few months ago than I've posted there in almost six years.

Right Russ, 10 posts out of about 1,400 have been to BST threads. Lets take that as a percentage. Thats 7/10ths of 1%. That amounts to a single BST post for every 140 other posts. Do you understand what the word "seldom" means Russ? I'd say once of every 140 times of anything qualifies as seldom.

Not only were you rude in his thread but you continue to poke and be rude. Totally sad

  • Like I said, this guy is a total JERK! Gecko you are a nasty person and a joke. Bash on other peoples stuff regularly, Where is your ads on the bst. I for one cant wait to see the crap you put up.

  • Ok seateddime. It appears that it was ok for you to hype your "lock 65", "eventual 66" dime that sold for $1700. Paul, congrats on dumping that dog! I'd be happy to get out of that one as well! Its too bad that most people on these boards do not have a more open mind about what this thread was all about. But again, as usual, it seems the sheep have prevailed. Some of you appear to be independant thinkers however, and I respect that. As for the rest of you, and your "pack mentality", enjoy being the hippocrites that you are. And be sure to flame all ebay auctions with just a glint of hype, or overgraded coins. But do not speak out on the wares of certain board members, lest ye be persecuted by the "pack".

The Gecko posts a coin on the BST the that is NGC 61 but he says 63 so the price is 63 money? Is that a joke?

I am at work and cannot see Gecko pic so I offer not opinions on the coin.

If my coin was a POS for 62, and you have a problem with your coin being a 61, and think that would get a 63, you clearly have no idea how to grade.

Geez, what a bunch of whinning. Who cares? Gecko sure has a burr up his butt today. I don't know why any of you care what he has to say. After all it's just a bunch of classic coins. Not like he talking about bullion coins or something important like that. image Platinum @ $2066/oz. image

Yeah its a 61 (market graded 58) but why cant I sell it as a 62 lock, good shot at 63 like seateddime is doing? What I have gathered from this thread so far is that this is very acceptable behavior, as long as you are a forum member here.image

You aren't really expecting people to buy those cheap old gold coins are you? Might as well buy aluminum or wrought iron. I heard the Chinese made some out of clay.
  • I understand you point about seated dime geck. Paul deserved better though. IMHO. I dont want to poke anyone here with a stick, but thats just my thoughts.

    As for the Op:

He can grade a coin from an image better than anyone I've ever seen.
He has extensive knowledge of $10 lib. series and the seated dime series.

Fc's quote: >>>>>>>russ, i opened 4 of those and 2 of them were not even close to being distasteful.>>>>>>>

I hope that was said in a humorous tone, because as I see it being 50% rude isn't exactly great.

  • Sure does Perry, but I cant figure out who exactly. I have been unable to match his dim witted remarks with any of the known players. Besides, even the members I dont agree with on everything at least have the balls to call me on something without hiding behind an alt.

50% rude to some, 50% honest to others. Besides, why dont you open all 10 or so and report back with your findings.

Thanks ahooka. Fact is that im not a bad guy at all. But im no ass kisser either, and I tend to be honest in my opinions. There are plenty of members here who i've spoken with extensively in PM that know im not just some miserable jagoff trying to piss in everyone's cheerios. But because I wont lay down and take the beatings like a good little boy from some of the pompous "good ole boys" in here, im viewed as a radical by them. Thats fine. This is an internet forum about a hobby. Some tend to get a little lost with that concept, and a few pointed remarks about some of their offerings suddenly take on the same level of insult as bashing their wives, or careers. For another member to say he "hopes both me and my computer get a virus" shows who the REAL "jerks" are. To say that a $10 lib is the baggiest, ugliest 62 I had ever seen pales in comparrison. Its a forum, its a hobby, its a coin. Get real people!
  • I agree 100%.

edited to add: someone said you should get a virus! Thats not cool or nice at all. Wow, thats kind of mean really.

gecko...dude... in your OP and in the title... the question seemed to be... is it appropriate to critique a coin listed in the BST?...

my answer was and still is... to critique it in PMs is totally cool...

to come here to the US coin forum and start a thread, as we do (ad nauseum) with ebay listings is OK...

...bringing possible fraud to the attention of the forum Mod is totally appropriate...

BUT... slamming someones coins in the listing, on the BST, IS NOT COOL...The BST is for offering coins for sale...
not to discuss them...that is what PM's are for...

The US forum...this one...is also for the discussion of coins...

    OK?

You can think any coin is whatever you think it is...but posting that opinion to a persons BST thread is just FLAT OUT RUDE, DUDE...

Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image
  • I think that is is poor form also.

    Send a PM.

It also knocks other sellers' post down the page by turning it into a discussion.

  • i dont see a need to bash fellow forum members on the BST unless they are trying to pull some sort of scam. If you want to send them a private message that seems fine, but to publicly comment might engender some very ill will.

IMO, very bad taste to comment negatively on a coin in the BST forum.

The BST forum is like a 'private correspondence' between a buyer and a seller and someone shouldn't be sticking their nose into someone's elses business.

Thats absolutely laughable! There is NOTHING private about the BST forum. If you want "private correspondence" then sell a coin in a PM. Is it bad taste to comment at all on a coin in the BST, or comment negatively only?
