He's not an unskilled ebay purchaser, just an unskilled reader.

<< <i>"...Feedback percentages will be lower but more honest. ..."

    ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

In the collectible categories, MY FB is already "honest."

In other high-risk categories, sellers have had no choice but to
do mutuals, IF they wanted to stay in business.

Most of my EBAY business is in fashion/electronics. Buyers are
notoriously crazy and pickey and fraudulent in those categories.

Scan of DARK Blue Sweater. Buyer gets item. Leaves NEG: "It looked pink in the picture."

High-End Shoes. Size-Cut Exactly Perfect. Buyer orders size 5 and cannot get her stinking size
7 hoof in the things. Leaves Neg: "Shoes were cut too small."

IPOD sale. Buyer gets yours, send his scratched to heii one back for a refund.
PayPal gets the serial number info and denies his claim. Neg Reads: "Item Scratched. Seller Refused To Refund My Money. THIEF!!!!!

    THOUSANDS of other examples available.

It is going to be bad.

    ..................................................
    >>

These are great examples. This is only going to lead to ridiculous amounts of buyer scams. It leaves the door wide open.

How many Paypal disputes will there be now? TONS. People getting their items and making Paypal claims to have the item AND their money!!!

Also, this is going to take away selection. You can bet your a$$ that a lot of people will no longer sell on ebay...and maybe they have the exact items you are looking for. Better hope you get lucky or you are very very patient!

DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN STEAL THIS LAPTOP OFF ME:

PAYPAL: Paypal is currently ebays preferred method of stealing high value electrical items off sellers. There are a number of various ways you can use to steal this laptop using paypal.

1: A Fake “Item Not Received” (I.N.R) Claim – All you simply have to do here is purchase my item using an unverified paypal account. Then when you receive the laptop, simply claim that you didn’t receive it at your registered (credit card) and paypal will give you all your money back !

2: A Fake “Item Significantly Not As Described” (S.N.A.D) This is a great way to steal items off sellers. Simply start a dispute after you get the laptop making up some lie about the item being damaged etc – You could use Photoshop to make up fake pictures of damage. Paypal will ask you to send the item back to me, but don’t bother – they never enforce that on buyers and after a short wait you will get all your money back and you will still have the laptop.

3: A fake “Unauthorised Use” Claim – This is a super way of stealing items on ebay and is widely used. Simply claim that someone hijacked your account (paypal & ebay) and that you didn’t order the laptop. Then in conjunction with a fake I.N.R claim you can simply steal the laptop and of course, get your money back.

4: A Stolen Credit card – Of course, ebay make no real attempt to vet any of its buyers, so hey, just register a new ebay account using fake ID information and link it to a paypal account set up with a stolen credit card – and hey presto – A free laptop.

    W ESTERN UNIO N

Although officially banned on ebay, fake western union payments are the preferred way for Nigerian Scammers to steal high value electrical items. Simply email me (using pigeon English) telling me that you would like to buy this item using Western Union – Tell me that you would be happy to pay over the odds for the laptop and that it is a present for your mother in law. Then send me a fake western union payment notification and I send you the laptop – Perfect. This method of stealing items off sellers is very widely used on ebay and of course, as ebay do not properly verify buyers its easy to do. Make sure you use Pigeon English as I am really really stupid and it’s bound to fool me.

    MUGGING

If you are a traditionalist like me you may prefer a good old mugging. Simply offer to meet me on some dodgy housing estate somewhere and have a load of you mates hiding behind a hedge with a few iron bars. Again, offer to pay me over the odds as there is nothing better than using a sellers greed to bait them into a scam. I would be grateful if you could avoid killing me as this will cause bad publicity for ebay which would be terrible.

    GENUINE BUYERS

In the unlikely event that you are actually a genuine buyer then you really should be shopping in a real shop and not this scammers paradise. However this laptop does really exist and is really for sale. You can email me or skype me with suggestions on how we may actually transact this item to both our satisfaction – with both our safety in mind. Don’t even think of buying it using paypal. I’ve only listed it as accepted because ebay run a protection racket that means I have to accept it. If you do pay by paypal I will simply refund your payment and give you a nice new shiny NEG.

    FEEDBACK BLACKMAIL

Of course you will no doubt be aware that from May onwards you will be able to blackmail sellers into giving you free P&P / discounts etc. You will be able to give them neg feedback and they will not be able to give you any.. I regret to advise you that because this rule does not come in until May this option of scamming me is not open to you yet.

    AUCTION WRECKING

I would grateful if some sad failed traffic warden could report this auction for two reasons

1: Ebay will see this listing and will hopefully close my account, saving me a 180 days wait to do it myself.

2: You will save me listing fees, making this a free advert.

    Happy Bidding!

On 07-Feb-08 at 13:34:10 GMT, seller added the following information:

**** STOP PRESS **** PEOPLE THERE IS NO POINT BIDDING ON THIS ITEM. IT WILL SURELY BE REMOVED VERY SOON BY EBAY. YOU CAN FIND THE EXACT SAME ITEM AND MY DETAILS ON TAZBAR (GOOGLE IT).

ANYWAY, IM OFF OUT NOW, IF THIS IS GONE BY THE TIME I GET BACK – HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED IT AND EBAY, THERE IS A SERIOUS SIDE TO THIS. SOONER OR LATER THE TRICKLE OF THOSE OF US LEAVING WILL TURN INTO A FLOOD. READ THE LETTER YOUR FOUNDER WROTE AND THEN TRY AND FOLLOW AT LEAST SOME OF IT!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On 08-Feb-08 at 01:24:50 GMT, seller added the following information:

I AM SORRY BUT I HAVE HAD TO CANCEL THIS AUCTION. THE MAIN REASON IS THREATENING EMAILS I AM GETTING AND ALSO THE FACT THAT EBAY WILL CLEARLY BID THIS UPTO £10M AND THEN TRY AND DO ME FOR THE FEES.

I HAD NO IDEA THIS AUCTION WOULD GET THE GLOBAL RESPONSE IT HAS AND ITS JUST A SHAME THAT EBAY WOULD RATHER THREATEN ME THAN ENGAGE ITS CUSTOMERS – BUT I GUESS THAT’S JUST THE WAY LIFE IS THESE DAYS.

I WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE ALL THE VERY BEST AND I HOPE TO SEE AS MANY OF YOU AS POSSIBLE ON PLACES LIKE WWW.TAZBAR.CO.UK GO ON, GIVE THEM YOUR SUPPORT. ONE OF US MAKES NO DIFFERENCE – THOUSANDS MAY DO, MILLIONS WILL!

SORRY FOR ENDING THIS EARLY, HOPE YOU ALL UNDERSTAND WHY I HAD TO.

ANYONE WHY STILL WANTS TO BUY THE LAPTOP PLEASE SEE MY AUCTION ON WWW.TAZBAR.CO.UK

<< <i>Just got this email today. In a month, I'll get a negative for this and will have to leave some ridiculous negative-neutral for this a$$clown.

    The specifics:
Auction: 1991 ACTION PACKED #21 BRETT FAVRE RC PSA 9
    BIN: $13.99
Winner: 417gwf (4) - You may just want to block them and move on
    Purchased 1/27, delivered Feb 5.
    Question from buyer:
Just wondering why you picture two cards in your add when you are only selling one....did not catch that.....good job, but I will not purchase any more from you. Those of us who are unskilled ebay purchasers would not catch that at first. Fool us once shame on us......you know the rest.

    My reply:

I'm not sure where the confusion is. Every single auction I have shows 2-4 cards. Listing 500+ cards in my store would take me a month if I scanned every single card individually. I, like most sellers, will scan similar cards together to show the other cards we have available as well. If I have a bunch of 84 Topps football recently graded, I'll scan a PSA 8 with another PSA 8 from the same set, team or player. It certainly is not done with any intent to "screw" someone. I would also like to point out that in my auction text it clearly states the following "YOU ARE ONLY BIDDING ON THE ITEM IN THE TITLE. ANY ADDITIONAL ITEMS PICTURED ARE OR WILL BECOME AVAILABLE IN OTHER AUCTIONS SO PLEASE LOOK FOR THEM!"

I also state "FOR GRADED CARDS: You will of course receive the card, grade and holder advertised in the title. If there are two PSA 9 graded cards pictured, you will receive one of them. I can't guarantee which cert # you will receive however. You are welcome to ask for a particular cert# if there are duplicates and one fits your preferences or collecting goals better than another. ie. centering, color etc..., I will do my best to accomodate you."

If you had any question, you should have asked and I would have responded promptly. Finally, the two cards that were pictured in that auction usually sell for $12-15 each. My Buy it Now was for $14. I do miss some things once in a while and have a card listed too expensive or too cheaply (My 91 PSA 10 Favre rc at $210 was sold very quickly when it jumped up to $275 for example) but the price was fair for the single card you purchased (listed in the title) Also the 2nd card pictured was not the same card so I'm surprised there was confusion.

At any rate, if you would like to return the card I'd be happy to refund your money and you can bid on someone elses items in the future. I apologize that you feel mislead.

    -Josh
    -----------------

Yes, I could have hurled insults and the like, but what's the point. Sure, reading is a learned skill and "buyer beware" doesn't apply to self-described "Unskilled ebay purchasers" but really, what should I have expected...

So in conclusion, come May 14 or whatever d-day is, I'll get a neg from this dip$hit even though he paid, I shipped and item arrived quickly and in good shape, exactly as described; only to be left with a neutral or positive in response that says "eBay - not just for smart people anymore"

And for anyone interested in my unethical and severely misleading selling practices, here is a link to my auctions so you too can never purchase from my deceptive a$$ again.

    1991 Favre >>

I didn't read the other posts - my understanding is that you can't leave a "neutral" for a buyer either - only positive or nothing. To knock the buyer, you'd have to leave a positive with negative commentary - just ridiculous really.
  • storm888storm888 Posts: 11,701 ✭✭✭
"To knock the buyer, you'd have to leave a positive with negative commentary ."

    ////////////////////////////////////////

    Nope. Not allowed.

They will delete any soft-positives, or positives with "negative" words in them.

EVEN a positive with the word "negative" in the FB will be deleted.

Example: "Nothing negative to say about this buyer."

    That would be pulled immediately.

Also the letter "N" as a prefix/suffix to the FB will be pulled.

I hadn't read that...Wow...this is an ebay a bit out of control right now. Scammer buyers will be running rampant on ebay like a plague of locusts.

  • So MTcards if I go and buy 500 dollars in cards from you get them then tell you either you give me 250 dollars or I neg you and file a complaint with paypal saying they are SNAD. Then when Paypal tells me to send the cards to you I send an empty envelope with DC. According to you I don't deserve a neg?? BS!!!

I am not going to change my feedback policy one bit IF this new change goes in. I will still keep my feedback to automaticaly leave feedback once I receive it.

  • I honestly have a feeling Ebay will not implement this. I find it funny everything else but this goes into efffect in February. I think it was just a ploy to get the sellers minds away from the new fees.

    No Problem Buyer = NPB

Instantly Notifiied seller of Receipt = Fake INR Scamster

Perfect In The Absolute sense of the word. = PITA

Fine Buyer Extrordinaire = Feedback Extortion

Getting any kind of code out to a wide audience means it
would be instantly useless. EBAY is serious about pulling
    anything negative.

I think The bottom of ebay -GREED is that if Ebay loses money after this fee increase, they will go back to the way it was, just like when they tried to shove checkout down our throats, that didnt jive to well, and they made it optional.

By the way, I still don't understand all the fuss about the new feedback policy.
It's the same as the eBay fee hikes, the postal rate hikes, the half point grades and every other change that comes along.

You simply adjust, get used to it, and go on about your business ...

An anology might be like a "bad buyer" who writes bad checks with impunity - well, he's going to keep writing bad checks...and nobody will know about it until they are scammed....because the seller now can't be warned.

This is such a no brainer, VERY POOR, decision on ebay's part to change feedback policy, and it's not even funny.

So what if a new member with 0 feedback starts buying high $ items left and right and then leaves all negatives?

How can the seller complain about the buyer? How will other sellers out there know that the buyer is bad news if we can't rate them?

    1) If every honest seller is affected in the same way by this policy change, then no seller is adversely effected, which is the only thing that matters.

    2) Leaving negative feedback for a buyer doesn't do anything. It doesn't prevent that seller from bidding on your future items (he can just open a new account if you block him), and it doesn't prevent him from screwing up other sellers' auctions.

    3) Everyone who is worked into a lather about this should step back from the computer and catch their breath. This is Ebay-- it isn't real life. If you take that much pride in your Ebay feedback rating then you've almost certainly lost perspective on what really matters. Go buy a sled, and take your kids out to the nearest hill. Or join a bowling league.

i can get along without it either way,cnn is interesting red though, all of this will never hapen though,if it affects ebays pockets, they wont do it, youwatch,,hy you think they have 3 months to impliment it, ebay is real life, people own buisinesses nd will cost alot more $, read the cnn posts boopots, youll see what i mean-i get pensions,i can get along fine without it, alot of people cant, thats the bottom line

The person who uses ebay as a large part of their home business wont have the profit to buy a sled.

Is ebay sending a free tube of KY to all its sellers? ouchie.

If you can prove it is the same buyer you have previously blocked to Ebay they will immediatly suspend him. Under the new policy when a member gets suspended their feedback is removed as well.

Its clear what is going to end up happening. Ebay is using this to hide the new fees. In Late March or April they will send out an announcement saying they have "listened" to their sellers and decided not to implement the new policy. They will make it sound like they are doing all sellers a favor and we will go pat them on the back. When in reality they will know they did nothing aside from pull the wool over the sellers eyes.

The issue isn't whether the new policy has no downside; it's whether the benefits of the policy outweigh the cost. And I am just astonished by the fact that not a single one of the doomsayers in this thread have troubled themselves to look at the issue from both sides. Is there a downside to this policy? Of course there is!! Nobody would argue that. But that is simply NOT the relevant question.

What I'd like to see are answers to the following:

    1) How many dollars do you honestly feel like you have saved (or earned, whatever your perspective) by having the priviledge of leaving negative feedback for buyers available?

    2) If everyone is affected by the new rules in the same way, then how would these rules put any given seller at a competitive disadvantage?

    3) What do you think the benefits are of this policy, even if you are against it?

    - I've sold on ebay for nearly 10 years and I've never, not once, ever looked at a buyer's feedback and blocked him from bidding on one of my auctions.

    - Boo is right, if there are guys out there that will leave more undeserved negs because they won't fear retaliation, then every seller will be getting those negs and it will essentially be a washout. Whether I have 99.6% under the old system, or 93.7% under the new system, it will all mean that I'm a reliable seller.
