Here's why the buyer only negative feedback will suck for sellers

    - I've sold on ebay for nearly 10 years and I've never, not once, ever looked at a buyer's feedback and blocked him from bidding on one of my auctions.

    - Boo is right, if there are guys out there that will leave more undeserved negs because they won't fear retaliation, then every seller will be getting those negs and it will essentially be a washout. Whether I have 99.6% under the old system, or 93.7% under the new system, it will all mean that I'm a reliable seller.

i ship same day-not real woried about it- it just ticks me that some dork can neg me for nothing at all and i cant neg him, and i have 99.9 after 40,000 and almost 10 years

true dat lee 1999 for me too-wellhave to play their wait and see game, ebay likes to play those

<< <i> Hello purchased a 1969 Tom Seaver PSA 8 from you and have received it but after looking at it, I think it is a very low end 8 (I just wanted to look at it thinking it would bump to 8.5 or 9) and the 3.00 for shipping was outrageous , so unless I get a 20.00 refund of a full refund I will give you a negative and straight 1's across the board . Please advise scumbucket here! >>

Ebay already has policies and processes for dealing with feedback blackmail/hostage/etc. Use those.

<< <i>i see nothing deceptive about your auction, days you are getting 1 card if 2 is pictured, stupid people should be beated with bags of rocks-guy had a 4 - thats where all my negs have came from, unenlightened halfwits with zeros or less than 10 >>

While there was nothing deceptive about the auction in question, I must say that I've always hated this practice. Seriously, how hard is it to scan 4 or 6 cards at once and then use software to split the resulting image into individual pieces for each auction? Not hard at all.

it saves em time and pic $ i guess, if i had a scanner and did it, id have it all screwed up ,one pic at a time for meimage
  • 3) Everyone who is worked into a lather about this should step back from the computer and catch their breath. This is Ebay-- it isn't real life. If you take that much pride in your Ebay feedback rating then you've almost certainly lost perspective on what really matters. Go buy a sled, and take your kids out to the nearest hill. Boopotts, while I agree with most of what you have stated. Ebay is real life for some sellers: full time sellers without a storefront, the handicapped and retired people and anyone else that use the money as another source of income just to get by month to month. I know these numbers make up a small percentage of Ebay sellers, but the higher the feedback the better price you receive.

I totally agree with you on the ebay price hike,it is outrageous to go from 5.25% to 8.75% and when you combine the two (price hike + the feedback rule) it spells bad news, as a buyer and seller I understand both sides especially retaliatory feedback left by sellers, and yes the (feedback rule) may be a smoke screen by ebay just to slip the higher fees past us. Just my opinion. Mike

I couldn't agree more. I can't tell how many times I've pulled up auctions to find that my slow dial up is waiting for a 9-card scan to show up, just so I can see the cards on the very bottom row. I usually hit the back button and shop elsewhere. There isn't much out there that's unique enough for me to waste my time waiting on large scans.

Interesting perspective. But let me offer you this, have you ever tried scanning your 700 card submission you just got back from PSA? It takes me about 3 days to do that. I provide high res scans, as well as smaller scans for the image so that you, the buyer, can see a supersized image as well. Not to mention, the small scan is about 21k, which would take less than half a second on even the slowest of dial-up. I used to do 4 cards / scan and realized I hated it just as much as the next guy, which is why I went down to 2 cards. The real advantage is time savings when you're scanning a few hundred cards, but a terrific side-effect is being able to show the buyers other cards you may also have. I know there are plenty of times I've seen a second card shown with a card I was looking for, only to go look at the rest of the sellers store and find other items I needed as well. Personally, I will not ever change that practice of showing 2 cards.
  • 2 cards in 1 scan isn't as bad. Since they are usually side-by-side, both cards come up at the same time. My problem is basically with the 4 card (or more) scans. Unless all 4 (or more) cards are included in the auction, such as showing key cards fro ma set being sold, I hit the back button, or stop button, and move on. Also most sellers I've seen that have multi-card scans, usually have them listed close to each other, so if it's something I'm interested in, I spot it as a listing before I see it in the multi-scan.

Another problem I ran into, from multi-card-scans, is when the seller is offering them on BIN. I, at one time, like so many, thought that multi-card scans were great, for the same reasons....I could see, in one scan, other items a seller has to offer. Well, I pulled up one particular item I was interested in, found I was interested in the other 3 items in this sellers scan as well, and went looking for them only to find that the other 3 were already sold via BIN (I emailed the seller to ask where they were listed). It just p'd me off to have to waste my time like that, so now I don't bother with them. Like I said, there aren't many things unique enough to wait extended amounts of time for, especially in the card collecting world.

I use the tab feature on my browser (Firefox), so I almost always have 5, 6, or 7 (or more) auction items loading at the same time. Having nice scans that are cropped properly, not too big, and yet big enough to assess the item being bid on seems to be the trick. Unfortunately, some people just don't have the "touch" when it comes to scanning.

  • Back when Ebay started it was possible to leave feedback for anyone at any time. as many times as you wanted. A transaction was not needed. Boy those days on Ebay were great. That ended in 1999 if memory seves me right. It sure would be fun to go back to that system of feedback (Give feedback to anyone you want at any time). FB ratings would get very interesting in a short period of time

I remember those days. You could leave unlimited positive or neutrals, but only one negative.
