  • The PM discussion is surprisingly quiet today considering that Platinum broke a new record high. I think most people here are resigned to the idea that PMs are headed for the moon in the short term!

  • You should have paid by credit card through paypal, not echeck. If it blows up on you and you use a credit card, you can always do a chargeback.
  • In a future thread I'll let you all know what happened...good or bad....but everything looks good to me.

If there is a problem with this seller, my peeps will talk to his peeps image I can't believe that Paypal only

protects you for only $200 image especially in light of the fees they charge for their "service" .

Oh well....see you all in a future thread..............gonna stay positive and optimistic.......

i have had doubts before from new people.. even sent a check..
but in the end they came through for me. good communication is
    a positive sign!
  • I think you will be OK, but FYI, you can see how much paypal protects you for on the right side of the screen right under the "meet the seller" and in the buy safely part of the auction page, it will be either 200 dollars or 2000 dollars, depending on what verification the seller went through (or "you are not protected" if they don't take paypal). You can make a good buy from new sellers a lot because people who don't trust them won't bid, and I am sure a lot of us have made out good like that on occassion! I think you will be good to go, good luck! Rob

  • Jimdepot...how did you find out that he sold three tonight? I've searched high and low for that info and can't

come up with it.....still learning new tricks on the bay. Rg and the rest who were more supportive, I appreciate

the positive responses. crossing my fingers. I've had good luck previously with other "take a chance on this one"

sales....so I'm staying positive, if not as ecstatic image as I was originally.....

I found a recent "Buy it Now" for $830 with a seller feedback of 5. linky

Then I did a search on the sellers completed auctions.

Did you buy one of the 3?

Could be that I have the wrong seller, or I am getting paranoid, because everyone is out to get me. image

I'd be a little concerned he hasn't ever sold anything and only signed up on 1/18. All of his purchases have been .99 to under $7 which is used many times to get a feedback to pull in people at the auction. We'll see but I don't think I like your chances. If his feedback was all sells for items over $100 I'd feel better.

I wonder how you stop payment on an echeck.................
  • As promised, I am following up on this thread to let you all know what transpired with this purchase....JimDepot and the rest of you who

had doubts about this purchase and the validity of the seller were absolutely RIGHT! This was a fraudulant seller that suckered me in

(greed on my part I admit....saw a quick flip for a profit) image Thanks to you all bringing me back to earth (thank God I posted this purchase)

it made me get aggressive to getting in touch with the seller. He hadn't emailed me to thank me for the purchase, so I emailed him. I got

no response. Second email, no response. Third... ditto.....So......I got in touch with Paypal to report a possible fraud. Now, I had paid with

e-check so the sale hadn't funded yet, so I thought I was going to be able to just cancel the sale.....WRONG!....I was advised that the funds

were in a "reserved" status and the transaction could not be cancelled. They further advised that all I could do, once the funds transferred

and showed completed, was to immediately file a dispute and elevate it to a claim so that the funds would be frozen and held until

the seller contacted Paypal to answer my claim. The resolution center told me that if the seller did not contact them within ten days, I would

automatically have the claim ruled in my favor. Well, ten days later the seller had not responded to them either. I called Paypal and they

said I would have to wait one more day to make sure he wasn't going to respond (not happy) but rest assured it would go as planned if

he didn't respond. We were going into the weekend, but she assured me someone would be able to help me (called on Saturday...closed)

Well, Sunday comes around and I check my dispute status...nothing there....I quickly scrolled down to see if my refund had been processed..

Only $200 ? with an email stating that that's what they were liable for and that they would pursue the balance of $630 with the seller....I

was not happy as you can imagine....I was certain they told me that the seller would have no access to the funds, why didn't I get the full

$830 back as promised? image I shot off an email last night to Paypal explaining my position on this and my recollection of the

conversation with the resolution center rep. I really thought I had been victimized twice now. BUT A MIRACLE THIS MORNING! image I went

to my Paypal account to get the phone number so I could call them and voice my disappointment and see if I could get them to do what

I thought they were going to do all along, and there it was....A REFUND FOR THE REMAINING $630....I can't even describe how good that felt.

As they say, all's well that ends well.....but what a trauma! I just want to thank everyone here, especially the key rainmaker JimDepot,

for spotting this fraud and alerting me to take action.....now today, I can once again call myself Luckyman! image

WOW - I remember your post from before and wondered for awhile if you got it. I'm SO GLAD your money came back to you - congratulations.

A lesson learned, thankfully at no cost to you.

Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

You were lucky indeed. If it looks too good to be true it usually is and with a low feedback it's probably a scam. I buy most everything off eBay and I always use PayPal credit card if possible as if PayPal doesn't come through then I can sic the CC company on them.m Only time I got burned was buying 2 North Face high altitude jackets from China. They were stolen and got busted by the Chinese but I never got a refund. I should have seen that coming. $600 jackets going for $40 each. I did get one before they shut them down. image

Wow, glad everything worked out. It's tough to play the flip game with so many crooked people out there. I have learned to pass up deals that look too good.

glad to hear things worked out well in the end. I am so paranoid with buying right now. I finally pulled the trigger on some gold last night on ebay, but not before spending half of the weekend browsing auctions, studying the sellers' feedbacks, etc. Between counterfeit coins, hijacked accounts and scammers you just can't trust anyone when making gold purchases. I started out by putting about 30 Saints I liked on my watch list, then studied each coin, auction and seller, that narrowed it down to about 3 that I felt good about. Thankfully the first Saint to end was one of my liking with a stellar seller, certified and in my price range and I landed it. The process to really get something good is a long one anymore

  • I have never bought off e-bay. I always buy off internet dealers or go to shows. Do you save that much money and get that good of deals off E-bay. It just seems like a lot of hassle and risk. Do you do it for the thrill of the hunt or what? I'm just wondering.

I'm OK with ebay gold from sellers with stellar feedback whose specialty is specifically in coins. I won't just buy from anyone selling gold. I try to check my local B&M guy. He doesn't like to deal with gold a whole lot becaue of the volatile price so he shys away. He will look for pieces for me at shows on weekends when I want him to and that's on rare occasion and I pay pay him exactly what he paid
