    A 1971 Irish 6 coin specimen set in its original holder. Cost, about $7.00, from a local dealer. They don't officially call them proofs, but that is what they look like. These sets are usually confused with the much more common unc. sets that were issued at the same time.

    Thanks! Thats my second old gold purchase this month. I never really know if I am paying too much I just look at past results and bid a decent amount under PCGS guide but still aggressive enough to win it if I really like it. Paid $260 + juice which comes to $291.20 I believe on the 2.5 dollar above guide is $450 so I think I did ok. image

    I believe my last buy was a group of three Morgans from DLRC (all VAMs unattributed).

    1889-S VAM-2 NGC 63PL, a VAM I didn't have in prooflike for the date
    1896-O VAM-19 NGC 63 -- should easily cross to PCGS, perhaps the finest known
    1902-O VAM-31A PCGS 63, nicest one I have found so far

    A 1929-D SLQ raw AU.

    I'm trying to build a nice year set, for a friend of my mothers. AU plus condition. Not an easy set, if you can't spend 100s of dollars on it. Might take me a while to find coins I want within my price range.

    I don't have it in hand yet but it was my last purchase of 2007.

    This series can be addicting. With a mintage of 55,900 the price in AU is still reasonable.
