Okay Kennedy collectors, here's your chance at those upgrades that rarely come along.

Coming up in the Heritage January FUN Signature sale are some pop top early dates that haven't come to market in public auction for several years.
1964 PCGS PR68DCAM Accented Hair, pop 8/0
1965 PCGS MS67DCAM SMS, pop 8/0
1966 PCGS MS68DCAM SMS, pop 4/0
1967 PCGS MS68DCAM SMS, pop 6/0
Not only has it been several years since any of these have come up for sale, it's been several years since PCGS has graded any of them.
This will be a fun sale to watch!

I recall that you made two of the 8 1964 DCAM AH halves after buying two proof sets containing the halves at a EBay auction some years back.
A further curiosity is whether the four coins that will be sold at the January FUN show have been consigned by one collector that owns all four coins or by multiple collectors. A further curiosity is the identity of the consignor. Does he or she post on the forums?
<< <i>Just curious Russ, of the four listed cins, how many of the PCGS top pops have you made; and how many of the top pops do you personally own at this time? >>
Just one, a PR68DCAM Accented Hair. The other coin made on that submission was a PR65DCAM. The coins were struck from the same die pair, but the PR65 was hairlined. I've also crossed two 66DCAMs.
The best I've done in the SMS coins is one MS65DCAM for 1965, two MS66DCAM for 1966 and five MS67DCAM for 1967.

I'd bet it's one consignor. Once images post of the coins, it'll be pretty easy to narrow down who it is. The possibilities are rather limited. Two of the sets that contain all four of these coins have been inactive for a while now.

That will be fun to watch!

Go to Heritage and click on the "coming soon" button. You'll see the FUN auction tab.

Given that I look at you as the resident in-house Kennedy expert, would you care to hazard even an order-of-magnitude guess about the prices these coins will realize?
<< <i>Given that I look at you as the resident in-house Kennedy expert, would you care to hazard even an order-of-magnitude guess about the prices these coins will realize? >>
Assuming that the coins are tone, haze, and spot-free - and not all the examples at this grade level are - this is the ranges of what I think they'll bring:
1964 PR68DCAM Accented Hair - $8500-$9500
1965 MS67DCAM SMS - $9500-$10,500
1966 MS68DCAM SMS - $12,000-$13,000
1967 MS68DCAM SMS - $9500-$10,500
I'd note, though, that Rick Tomaska, who is arguably the most knowledgeable guy on the planet when it comes to these, has quoted higher potential numbers in the past.

It will also be interesting to see how many different bidders participate in the auction of the coins.

Can you give a ballpark figure for sales prices ??

That must be Honeycutt, since Parke's coins came from Edson, and EBL III did his buying from R&I. Unless it's a player who doesn't have a set in the registry.
Edited to add: Now that I think about it, one of Parke's - the 1966 MS68DCAM - did come through you since you sold it to Edson.

Since I don't collect Kennedys, I was wondering what you (Russ) thought of Dr. Naranjo's Collection in the NGC Registry sets. I was browsing there the the other day, and it looks like he has several top collections of US coins, and figured you may know him or his coins. Looks like some nice stuff.
<< <i>The images are posted for this group. No slab images, though. I was hoping there'd be images of the holders so I could try and zero in on the mystery seller.

And if I remember right he ended up with some extras when he got the Santos set.
<< <i>And if I remember right he ended up with some extras when he got the Santos set. >>
These aren't extras. The 1966 MS68DCAM is from Edson's set, and is the coin that Don Heath made about 4 1/2 years ago. Parke had a 67DCAM in that slot when he bought Edson's.

And If I win the Mega millions tonight I could possibly play but the odds are not in my favor.
Edited to remove killer post.
1964 PCGS PR68DCAM Accented Hair - $4312.50

Those bids won't hold up, looks like someone is "bottom Feeding" with those low bids
Edited to add: I will be surprised if the 1966 SM68DCAM goes for less then $14,000.
<< <i>looks like someone is "bottom Feeding" with those low bids >>
Yeah, me.
I'm still high bidder on the last one.
Russ, NCNE
$68 $125 $3,810 $3,050 $2,680 $2,780 $9,500
I guess this shows it really has been a while since these have been sold.
Last price is PCGS, Russ did you have anything to do wit that?
BTW - Bear's 66 in 68 Dcam sold at the Goldberg auction 4-5 years ago for $11,800 + juice, if memory serves, so I'd bet $14k is close. JMO

I take it it will need to be taken right out of a set or would you think that there could be an upgrade waiting to happen?
Bruce
<< <i>Do you think that there is, somewhere a SMS 69 D/Cam or Cameo out there???? >>
There may be a 1967 example out there somewhere that could achieve that grade level. The mint was dramatically more careful with handling in the third year of production. But, I don't think one exists for 1965 or 1966 - unless coins were pulled and set aside by mint employees at the time.
Russ, NCNE
I also have you to blame for me now looking at EVERY Kennedy I see!!!!!!! Thinking about, I thank you, it's been fun.

Hazy now or maybe it always was and the 1st photo did not show it or it is the new plastic and not the coin that has the haze.?
