$30,000 coin collection stolen in Florida

PALM BAY — Police say a burglar who broke into a home this past weekend made off with $30,000 in rare coins.

The break-in happened sometime Saturday morning on a home in the 2300 block of Ravell Road in the southeast section of Palm Bay. The homeowners were not at the residence at the time of the burglary.

No arrests were made. An investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 952-3456.

Do all these things happen in Florida or are you just looking for the crimes which happen there?

The first place I'd be looking is into the people who are aquainted with the victim.

Many of the scumbags who do these things in Fla come from somewhere else .

Yikes! Is there a listing yet of what was stolen? There is a coin show in Melbourne this Sunday (town adjacent to Palm Bay). The dealers and show sponsers could probably help be on the lookout for some of the stolen items, if any have identifiable attributes (not just the usual junk silver and wheat cents that come in by the boxful).

Surely there are scumbags who are born and raised in Fla. However I grow weary of ignoramuses who seem to come out and talk bad about Fla when shiite like this happens everywhere .

It would be truly stupid of the thieves to try and sell the coins at the Melbourne show.... which is exactly why everyone there should be alerted... thieves are basically stupid. Cheers, RickO

    That's two points.

We DO have orange trees in our backyard. Tangerines, Mango, Bannana and Grapefruit too. image Just had a fresh sqeezed juice made from 1 orange we just picked.

Honestly, I wasn't trying to be rude.
I respect your feelings of loyalty to your State. image
I've only been in Washington for 10 years, so I still feel similarly about my homestate of Michigan...though with Detroit, pretty much everything that happens bad in Michigan comes from Michigan. image

Thanks, it's a great place and people from all over the world come to live here. It becomes a life's goal for millions of people to move to Fla.

Unfortunately we have the negatives too........

I'm not very familiar with that part of Fla. My Brother lives on Merrit Island and I used to do business with a guy in Melbourne. Years ago I thought I remembered Palm Bay being a trouble spot but I could be wrong.

  • A lot of the thefts do occur in Florida , along with Arizona,Texas ,New Mexico
and California . I think the biggest reason is that so many retirees move there.
They bring their coins , and some years later pass on . Widows run into coin
shops to sell . If one looks at the annual Coin Dealer Guide , Florida has a
diproportionately large amount of coin shops in relation to other states .
Besides warm , there are more targets available there than in Maine .

    Mr. EarlyGold,

With all due respect. I think Seattle Slammer handed you your hat. There are crimes committed in every state of the union. Crime also seems to have its phases. Towns or areas that were previously "high-crime" areas now are not and vice versa. Even within metropolitan areas crime locus ebbs and flows. You seemed a bit testy with the response.
