Shots fired inside Florida coin shop, nobody hurt, assailants arrested

A high speed chase began in Delray Beach at a coin and jewelry store Tuesday afternoon and continued through several communities and on Interstate 95.

Police say shots were fired inside the Andrews Coins, Jewelry, Antiques, and Collectibles store on Federal Highway just north of Linton Boulevard.

Delray Beach Police say this all started just after three o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators say the female entered the store and said she was shopping for an engagement ring.

Two males followed her inside. One said "hey you" to the store owner and fired four rounds at him and the two other store employees.

"No statement was made about giving jewelry, money or robbery, just 'hey you' and multiple gunshots were fired at him. He ducked and the other employees ducked. He didn't return fire but he was going to but all the subjects fled from the store," says Jeff Messer, Delray Beach Police Department spokesman.

Police say the female fled on foot. She walked across Federal Highway and was quickly arrested.

The two males jumped over the plaza wall and into a residential neighborhood where a getaway car was apparently waiting for them.

Someone was in the car and that's when the chase began.

One male was taken into custody when police caught up with them nearby but the other two males inside the car sped away... and the chase continued through Boynton Beach and Lantana and onto I-95.

Police were able to stop the car and arrest the two remaining suspects just south of Forest Hill Boulevard.

"On I-95 as they were northbound, they threw one of the guns over the median into the construction area into the southbound lane. Our officers were able to recover another one in the vehicle.

Police say there was no struggle inside the coin and jewelry store.

Investigators believe the suspects did not demand money or items -- they just went straight to shooting.

Names have not been released. All four suspects are in custody.

No one was hit by gunfire. There are no reported injuries in this attempted murder case.

I hope the dealer and his family are ok.

There's a law in Fla that makes it MANDATORY prison for these types of scumbags who use a firearm like this.

Personally I think they should fry and we DO have the death penalty too.

Sadly, not just Florida... pull up www.nbc10.com to see the daily mayhem in Philly and suburbs for example (where I was rasied).

As there were no reported injuries, I don't think there will be any 'frying'....and yes, this goes on everywhere. I'm sure it's not a first offense for any of them, or even a second or third. And I'm sure they already have a pack of lawyers making sure none of their rights were violated during or after the arrests. With plea bargaining and minimum bail setting, they'll probably be out in time for the FUN show, unfortunately.

The shop owners showed great restraint in not shooting back.

They have a law in Texas permitting one to shoot to kill if someone is trying to rob your goods like this or otherwise threatening you with a gun. A case where someone shot a few guys dead who were robbing a neighbor's house under these circumstances is pending as I write this.

That is correct. The mandatory MINIMUM sentences are as follows:

10 years minimum if a person pulls out a gun.
20 years minimum if a person shoots a gun.
minimum 25 years to life if a person shoots someone.
3 years minimum if a convicted felon possess a firearm.

Hard to know what they were thinking, the woman was obviously a decoy and they had a getaway car so they had something
planned but what transpired made no sense, they might have panicked or were high on drugs and not thinking clearly.

99.9% of the shootings in Phila are in the 'hood where the drug dealers are shooting each other. Let 'em kill each other. It's more expedient justice than our legal system.
