Now, here's a coin we don't see often, (in fact, VERY rarely).

You aren't kidding, Russ, you hardly see them come up for auction at all. I don't have access to the pop reports, but I know there aren't many. I wish I knew it was coming up, I would have set some money aside.

There are only two of them graded, that one and a 66CAM. Never saw one of them in an auction before, not that I follow the series closely though.

They don't show up in the new Auction Prices linked on the PCGS front page either. BTW, I like that new feature. It is very convenient and only just noticed it recently.

That is a really tough coin in CAM. The pics make this one look weak on the obverse. What do you think about this one Russ, a solid CAM or a liner?

    seems weak for a cameo

<< <i>Full blazing mint brilliance. Bold CAMEO effect frosted devices. Glittering deeply reflective fields. >>

Hard to see those from the photo for me.

I want it (but I can't afford it!). The photos aren't helping- they don't even make it look proof!

Teletrade photos suck, hard. I can almost garauntee you the coin looks nicer in hand.

Last I saw it was at $2350, then hit my browser back, refreshed and went to $2200? Strange??

  • I'm not a dip enthusiast usually, but that one looks like it would light up like the sun with a little dippy doo...

  • 7 Cams all dates/grades:

    '38: 1 66, 1 67
    '39: 1 64, 1 66
    '42: 2 65, 1 66

    No DCAMs

Would love to see the one in 67.

I agree. I would bet you can capture MUCH better reflectivity than TT did.

I was lucky at the April Santa Clara show. Our own Skyman owns one of the 1938 Cameo proof walkers. He brought it to the show and I got to see the coin in hand. It looked very close in appearance to a Proof ASE. A stuuner of a coin.

I haven't seen Skyman's WLH in person but the photos are phenomenal.

Would like to see this one with a skilled photographer.

I somewhat question what this '42 looks like in hand.

TT might not be the best imagers, but they are not bad. Take a look at all the other coins that are graded Cameo that they've taken pictures of. You get a fairly decent view of the cameo contrast. I'll grant you the Walker is probably tougher to image, but still...

FWIW, my coin is not a Kool Aid coin. It is an NGC coin, a 1938 PR66Cameo. With all due respect to the '42 in question, This is what a cameo Walker is supposed to look like.

I agree, but that's the nature of the beast, I suppose. That's no doubt why there are so few CAMs. I have yet to see a really amazing CAM Wheatie, either, for that matter. Sure, I've seen some pix of CAMs, but they too did not seem to have much contrast.

I have seen a PCGS 66 cam Walker in hand and had the chance to buy it. I think it was the '39 but am not absolutely sure. It was a nice coin but I didn't think it deserved a $10k pricetag - kind of a cam minus on the cameo scale. Anyway, I passed and have never regretted it.

And Lord Marcovan - here is an early wheatie for you. I found it trapped in an old ANACS holder with no cameo designation. Got it for about $100, cracked it out and it came back 65 cameo. IMHO, a solid cameo, not a gift.

Yep, that'll do 'er! OT, but what a gorgeous cam '38 wheatie, too.

You sure aren't kidding about that! This is the first one I have EVER seen!

Given the rarity of that label, I'm surprised it only brought $2400.

<< <i>What do you think about this one Russ, a solid CAM or a liner? >>

Based on the images, I would not grade it a cameo.
