Cardsold (Update - we agreed to mutually withdraw feedback) - let this thread die
Ahhh...Another E-Bay seller to cross off your list. I bought a 1948 Bob Waterfield on E-Bay that was listed as NM+.
Waterfield auction
I get the card and it's more beat up than it appears and is closer to EX to EX+. I left the seller the following neutral feedback:
"Card overgraded - not NM. More like EX+ to EX/MT at best."
The seller, never left feedback for me so I took a chance leaving what I did. Within 1 hour, I get the following retaliatory feedback:
"Takes forever to conclude transaction needs to buy graded material ONLY!"
Now, I'm not sure how I "took forever to conclude the transaction". I paid via paypal less than 6 days after the auction ended:
"This item has been paid through PayPal. Payment was sent to: cardsold@aol.com on Sep-01-07"
Just a friendly warning to all!!
Regards,
Greg M.

He's an old timer who hates grading companies, and overgraded back when the standards were considerably lower. IMO there is absolutely no reason to ever deal with him, and I certainly won't again.

If you remember I stated a while back - that I went and looked at cards that I bought in the late 80s and early 90s from reputable guys and every card that was graded by them NmMt - were more like 5s and 6s.
I rarely used a magnifier back then - in fact, I didn't even know that I was close to needing reading glasses!!!
I think Pologrounds, the old Superior when Greg owned it, Greg Manning, Mr Mint - just to name a few - ALL overgrade - I think they just glance at the card and give a grade based on their overall impression.
BTW - I'm sorry to hear you lost that kind of money. I've lost that and more due to overgrading and even alteration of cards.
mike
Sorry to hear about this. I can't believe he negged you!!!!
I checked the auction and he does have a return policy.
Did you contact him to say you weren't satisfied?

Mike - no I didn't contact him. I was so p*ssed that the card was nowhere near NM+, I didn't feel like duking it out with this guy. I figured that I'd eat the $ and leave a neutral to show my displeasure. I sent him a link to this thread, and he is furious. I've given him an out, where we can mutually withdraw feedback and I'll remove this thread and post a new thread that he and I worked it out. So far, he's rather hurl insults at me and threaten legal action.

Thanks again!
I will go on record if he reads this - if he withdraws your neg, and if he sees fit - takes the card back.
I'll continue to watch his auctions.

Seller- If you are reading this remember you upset one customer in any way they tell at least 13 on average. If you please one person they tell NOBODY.. Just a fact of life.
I was actually looking at acouple of his cards as well. Obviously nothing to see there.

Note to seller: You suck. Your unprofessionalism in handling your deal with Greg, your ignorant repeated overgrading of cards, and your ridiculous 'no returns' policy is literally costing you thousands of dollars. Learn how to conduct business ethically if you want to succeed you dickweed.

Mike-
I'm not talking a little bit here. If I buy a NrMint raw card on ebay I expect it to be Ex or Ex+, thats just the nature of the game. But when cards are described critically as Ex Mint, no scans but I promise I'm a strict grader (although I don't take returns, and only accept MO's) and they come in with chunks of the cards missing it's beyond a question of different eras of grading. It's one thing to open the box and the cards are slightly overgraded, but when you open them and your first thought is "what the f$#*!" you know you've been burned.
I've been pretty lucky in that I've only been really burned twice- once by the seller being discussed and once by an auction house with a lot of similarities to this seller. Considering all the transactions and all the really great people I've met those aren't bad odds, but I'm not stupid enough to make the same mistake twice. Hopefully Greg has helped a few people avoid making it the first time.
Sorry you had to deal with this Greg.

"Incidentally before this GRADING GAME started we used to have 3 of the 5 largest dealers in the country send us stuff to assess the validity and condition and send it back to them we have almost 50 years into what WAS a hobby but the stock market losers ruined this along with coins and comics unfortunately so we do know what we are doing end of story. So the decision is up to you NOW THAT YOU HAVE PERSONALLY SULLIED OUR NAME ON THAT STUPID BOARD OF LOSERS you go remove it and send us the link and go retract your negative and we will reciprocate we will not initiate anything until you rectify this to our satisfaction. Do everyone a favor!!! Contact them if you are not happy just as our POSTINGS STATE MONEY BACK IN 7 days you did not contact us at all so what are we supposed to do?
Respectfully
Cardsold
Now don't make this any worse that you have ALREADY!"
and here is another:
"Bottom line is we have never had to retact anything as we are just as honest as they come. Look we are sorry you are not happy BUT all you had to do was contact us and we would of made it right. You want to go retract that stuff fine we will reciprocate. But I would ask that you at least take a moment and apologize for your lack of communication. We will retract our feedback BUT you have to take the first step and the damage is done from your posting on that board while we don't think it's fair nontheless there is nothing we can do about it as the damage has been done. This is NOT collecting any longer this is "either make ME happy" or I will complain to the world. Yes it's not fair but it's what has transpired nevertheless. It was not retaliatory at all it was in pure response to your feedback. We are as fair as we can be to everyone and take our feedbacks very seriously as WE WANT EVERYONE HAPPY!!! We do not do the DEALER GAME THAT IS PREVELANT of waiting for others to leave feedback as that is not cool. I agree I am not going to go back and forth with youeither you retract that stuff (even though THE DAMAGE IS DONE) as the stupid asses that go to the grading board have seen it already. Don't you find it interesting that Collectors Universe are the owners of PSA what a coincidence. Some day as I have personally told Orlando that game is going to end now they grade wire photo's that's because idiots will submit the stuff more money for them it will end in time. Your remarks about my family quite frankly pissed me off period. WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST CONTACT US????????????????"
Unreal - this guy has issues...

Wow Anthony.
That's not over-grading then - he's just a plain ole crook!
The card with Greg was the Wallace T3 - in fact - he graded it Nmmt - I called him on it - he told me to hold only to it - that it was the best he had seen and worth the 800$ I paid.
Obviously I can't go back to him almost 20 yrs later - but I still think he's a good guy and I don't think he would intentionally deceive anyone?
mike
anybody want it?
Greg, if you want cardsold.com you can have it for free
if the seller would like to own cardsold.com, i'm willing to sell it for $200 bucks.
Ummm, that's the exact definition of 'retaliatory', sir.
Greg, honestly, after insulting a large group of collectors which probably sent him thousands of dollars, I wouldn't take back anything or edit this thread in any way. Is this really how he views his customers? What does he care what we do with his cards after we buy them? I've seen some anti-grading 'purists' (of which I am one), but this guy's lost his mind.
"Hey PSA SUCKS! YOU Belong there and YOU need to go to memory lane and pay the prices the whores charge or perhaps legacy or triple sss go to them. Your email was just circulated to over 200 places see what kind of response you receive and it's been forwarded to ebay's security team so you just go and play the grading game as it will explodes in fact go give orlando a KISS probably looks better than what you got anyway. LOL"
and one more:
"Because you are FAILED TO CONTACT US you did the chickensh*t thing and then complained without contacting us AT ALL! You have been alerted to ebay already you can go post anything you want on the "whore board" okay but if you are going to go there why not pull money out of your pocket and buy graded stuff as that is what the GAME wants to happen instead of trying to make out like the whore dealers do on ebay then either get it graded OR take stuff to shows because no morons are walking into shows handing them stuff any longer. You could of contacted us but sorry to say you have chose to trash us instead. Your choice a poor one but nevertheless we just happened to have come on here and saw your feedback and responded pure and simple we don't troll on a computer all day WE HAVE LIVES! Sorry to hear you are lacking in that department. So you just go whine on that stupid psa board that you bought something you couldn't screw someone on by getting it graded and making money. You neglected to explain to your buddies on that PSA FORUM why you are buying stuff raw? How come YA CHEAP! Now just go and tell your old lady and family to heal and sit and you will be fine hell throw em a bone out in the yard your response/attention is forthcoming have a nice day!"
Enjoy!

That says a lot about how badly he needs his image protected
The only thing that rubs me more than people that overgrade raw cards, are the people that are arrogant and disrespectful. Not only did he disrespect you, he chose to single out the members of this forum.
I buy graded. I buy raw. But not from him.

So now Mr. Cardsold, I'm a stupid ass?? Wow, I have nothing to do with this, but I'm a stupid ass. Not one cent of mine will ever be bid on your cards ever again and I'll make sure to make mention of how you feel about your customers on every sports collecting forum I come across.

Mike-
I've got a good friend (and is a frequent poster on this board) that often buys raw from Polo Grounds and his submissions come back very high- 8's and 9's, never anything below a 7, and never rejected. Not sure they deserve to be on this list.

That's not my understanding - I've had a few friends buy and they felt they overgraded by 1 to 2 grades.
Moreover, why do they sell an 8 - raw - for 150$ e.g. and if they have the same card PSA 8 - it will sell for 3 to 400$? What? They can't afford the few bucks to get those gems graded an 8 if they know they can double or triple their revenue?
But, for the sake of fairness? I'll just say that's what my two friends experienced.
And not over-generalize.
If anyone is offended by my report - well - I apologize.
mike
edit: for the sake of clarity - my position on Pologrounds was based on a mid to early 90s reporting.
I don't think they intentionally over-grade - I think they're old school - now if that's changed - I believe that would be a disservice to Pologrounds.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I agree he is PO'ed at the whole grading industry because he sees some of his old stuff in slabs selling for mucho dollars.
If Im a whore then it feels good being a whore. Where can I get me some more?
He must wear a big, full diaper because he sounds like a big whining baby.
He is defending his overgrading by attacking graded cards - tall tale sign that he is reaching for his excuses for ripping people off.
He has no idea why people collect cards whether they be graded or raw.
And Yankeeefan is a stupid ass
pretty good ryme scheme yank lol
"there once was a man from natuckett....i think thats him!
1st card i saw was a card he graded as a vg?
what the hell is VG?
oh yes he claims it's vg at BEST
but with 2 PINHOLES it makes the card fair at best
total moron who can't grade properly
also did u notice almost every card has + after the grade to refer to a hi end grade
also he uses the em grade
I guess he means ex/mt?
now that is the stupidest grade ever devised
How can a card range from to excellent to mint?
Is the front ex & the reverse mint?
A group of cards can grade ex/.mt
but not a single card
obviously a old time dealer who's clueless to the current grading standards
Now u know why grading services are so popular with reputable dealers &
HATED by the shysters

<< <i>Just my two cents on this topic - I have never had anything but positive experiences in dealing with cardsold. He has bought several items from me and paid promptly, and when I have won items from him, they are shipped laser-fast. I really hate to see something come up like this in what is for me a fun and enjoyable hobby. IMO, this is a textbook example of why PSA flourishes. Raw cards are best bought in person only. >>
Thanks for your input. I agree that raw cards are best bought in person, however I have bought many nice raw cards off E-Bay. I don't like the "lurking" sellers who don't post feedback until feedback is left for them. That way, either you leave positve feedback (even if the product / service was terrible) or suffer retaliatory feedback such as what happened to me.
You have have had nice experiences w/ Cardsold, but you seem to be in the minority.

Greg M.

However, in all fairness, if you were unhappy enough to leave a neutral I think you should've given him the chance first to make it right. I doubt he would've, but at least you would have tried. In any case his retalitory neg was completely out of line, and if he felt you paid slowly he should've posted the neg prior to you posting yours.
